What is the appropriate temperature for foot soaking

Foot soaking can effectively relieve the phenomenon of cold hands and feet, and it is also good for physical health. However, you must pay attention to the correct method. The water temperature can be around 40 degrees, and the soaking time should not be too long each time, fifteen to twenty minutes is enough.

1. Doctors remind everyone that some people make their feet red when soaking their feet, and think that the higher the water temperature, the better the effect. This is a wrong understanding. The water temperature should not be too high when soaking your feet, about 40℃ is enough. Because the water temperature is too high, the blood vessels in the feet dilate excessively, and more blood in the human body flows to the lower limbs, which can easily cause insufficient blood supply to important organs such as the heart, brain, and kidneys. It can also damage the sebum film on the surface of the foot skin, causing the stratum corneum to dry out or even crack. Especially for children who are in the developmental stage, frequent soaking of feet in overheated water will cause the plantar ligaments to deform and relax, which is not conducive to the development of the arch of the foot and can easily induce flat feet.

2. At the same time, the foot soaking time should not be too long, 15-20 minutes is appropriate. When soaking your feet, the body's blood circulation speeds up and the heart rate also increases. Soaking your feet for too long can easily increase the burden on the heart. People with weak constitutions are prone to feeling dizzy due to insufficient blood supply to the brain, and in severe cases may even faint. Patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes and the elderly should pay special attention. If they have symptoms of chest tightness or dizziness, they should temporarily stop soaking their feet.

3. Experts remind that it is not advisable to soak your feet within half an hour after a meal. Just after a meal, most of the blood in the human body flows to the digestive tract. If you soak your feet in hot water at this time, the blood will flow to the lower limbs, which will affect the digestion and absorption function over time. It is best to wash your feet one hour after a meal. If your feet are too cold, you should first rub them moderately with your hands to slowly warm them up, and then soak them in hot water. Generally, soak until your body becomes warm and your head starts to sweat slightly.
