How to wash oil stains off down jackets

How to wash oil stains off down jackets

Winter is here, and it's time to wear down jackets to keep warm. However, putting on a down jacket means preparing for washing, because most down jackets are not stain-resistant, and we must be prepared to wash them at any time. If there is only a little dust on the down jacket, you can just wipe it with a damp cloth, but if it is stained with oil that is difficult to clean. What should we do?

First, read the small washing label on the down jacket and make sure it has a washable logo. Then you can take the following measures:

1. Take the original liquid of special laundry detergent and apply it to the oily spots. Do not wash it immediately after application, but let it stand for five minutes;

2. After 5 minutes, wash normally. If the dirt is serious, you can use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently scrub the oily spots.

3. After removing the oil stains, wipe them with a clean white towel dipped in clean water;

4. Rinse the areas where the detergent has stained with clean water to remove the residual detergent;

5. After washing the down jacket, place it in a ventilated place to dry.

Note: This method is only suitable for washable down jackets. After washing, do not wring the down jacket, but squeeze out all the water. When drying, try to dry the down jacket on the back in a ventilated place after it stops dripping. Do not expose it to the sun or dry it in a dryer. When it is about to be dried, gently pat it with your hands or a small wooden stick to restore the down to its natural fluffy state. It is also beneficial for the filling to dry thoroughly and prevent mold. Finally, wrap the thoroughly dried down jacket in a breathable storage bag and store it in a ventilated and dry closet.

When washing down jackets, be sure to use special laundry detergent and do not wring it out with your hands. This is different from ordinary clothes. If it is too dirty, you can use a brush to brush off the stains, and then wash it with water to clean up the remaining laundry detergent. Of course, this only applies to washable down jackets, so please read the instructions on the down jacket carefully before washing.
