Can I still eat olive oil after it’s expired for several months?

Some families buy olive oil, but because they don't eat it at home often, the olive oil may expire. However, different people have different attitudes towards expired olive oil. Some people think that even if the oil is expired, it will not become moldy or deteriorate like other foods, so they can continue to eat it; others will throw away any expired food, but this is not good for the body. So, can we still eat expired olive oil?

It is best not to use it. Olive oil is like cosmetics. It can be kept for several years when sealed, but once opened it must be used up within a few months. Cooking oil can easily go rancid because the fat will oxidize automatically. The oxidation of oils and fats will produce many toxic oxidative decomposition substances, and the formation of peroxides will cause rancidity and produce unpleasant odors. The rancidity of fats and oils does not attract people's attention as easily as the spoilage and mildew of food. When we smell an abnormal odor, the peroxide content of the fats and oils has already far exceeded the national standard value. So for the sake of health, don't use olive oil after it expires.

However, expired olive oil can still be used. Here are some of the wonderful uses of expired olive oil:

1. Hair care: After shampooing, inject a small amount of this product into warm water. Once rinsed, the oil will be evenly attached to the hair. If you feel that this is too oily, you can wash your hair again with a neutral shampoo. Olive oil contains vitamin B and vitamin E. Drop an appropriate amount on the palm of your hand and rub it directly into the hair. Regular use can make the hair shiny and beautiful, prevent hair from becoming dry and yellow, and also prevent hair loss, oil production, remove dandruff, and prevent dryness and split ends. If you can insist on using it once a week, the effect will be better.

2. Makeup removal: When removing makeup, drop a few drops of olive oil on your fingers, gently massage your face with your fingertips, and then apply a facial steamer or towel to your face. This can remove dirt in the pores that is invisible to the naked eye, increase the skin's luster and elasticity, nourish the skin, and remove fine wrinkles.

Do not consume olive oil after it expires to avoid harmful effects on your health. However, inedible olive oil can be used in other places, such as hair care, makeup removal, etc. This will not harm the body. It can also make hair smoother and reduce split ends; it can also make the skin more lustrous and elastic and remove small wrinkles on the face.
