Clean your ears frequently, be careful not to get cancer

Going to the barber shop to wash hair and clean ears has become a must for some people. It is a very enjoyable thing to squinting your eyes and letting the shampoo lady put the cotton swab into your ears, making a "swishing" sound. But over time, some people's ears start to feel bad, the external auditory canal starts to become inflamed, and sometimes even yellow liquid flows out. Otolaryngologists say that nowadays, there are too many patients who have problems with ear cleaning in barber shops, almost every day. Do you know about ear health?

Earwax is the line of defense that protects the ears. People call the secretions from the ears "earwax". Subconsciously, they regard it as waste of the human body. In fact, earwax has another scientific name called cerumen, "and it has a protective effect on the ears," said relevant experts. Earwax is acidic, which keeps the external auditory canal acidic and, together with the ear hair on the ear canal wall, protects against external bacterial invasion. Frequent ear cleaning will remove all the earwax, which is equivalent to removing the external defense line of the ear, allowing bacteria to invade the ear canal and eardrum, causing chronic inflammation, symptoms such as ear pain and pus discharge, and even hearing loss in severe cases. Frequent ear cleaning is equivalent to opening the door to bacteria. The healthy external auditory canal has its own self-cleaning function. If you just keep digging, you may end up making the earwax unable to come out. "Because using cotton swabs to pick ears may not only fail to remove earwax, but also push it inward, preventing it from being discharged on its own. Once water accidentally enters the ears when washing your hair or taking a bath, the earwax absorbs water and swells, and the acidic earwax will corrode the skin deep in the ear canal and cause inflammation. In addition, frequent ear picking will cause abnormal earwax secretion. The earwax may grow more and more, and the newly secreted earwax will change from the original flakes to debris, thereby reducing the ability to protect the ears. It is best not to pick your ears by yourself. If your ears are wet when washing your hair and taking a bath, the most you can do is wipe the auricle with a cotton swab. If earwax blocks the ear canal, you can go to the hospital for treatment. The otolaryngologist will remove the earwax with professional tweezers under direct vision with a forehead mirror.
