What are the methods of making soup medicine

There are many kinds of diseases in our lives. Diseases often bring us a lot of pain and seriously affect our lives. Each disease has its own unique treatment method. Some people will choose Western medicine treatment, while others will choose Chinese medicine treatment. However, Chinese medicine treatment often requires us to take decoctions for conditioning. The preparation of decoctions is also very important, because a good decoction will greatly help the treatment effect. So how can we prepare the decoction well? Let's learn about the methods of preparing decoctions.

What are the methods of making soup medicine?

1. Casserole, enamelware or stainless steel are the best containers for decocting medicine. Ironware is strictly prohibited.

2. Chinese medicine should be soaked in cold water for about 20 minutes before decocting. The amount of water used for decocting medicine is generally enough to soak the medicine surface 1-3 cm. For large doses of medicines or medicines that are loose and easily absorb water, the amount of water can be increased appropriately.

3. The decocting time should be determined according to the medicinal properties, generally 30 minutes. Antipyretic drugs, heat-clearing drugs, and aromatic drugs should not be decocted for a long time. They should be decocted for 15-20 minutes after boiling. The tonic medicine should be boiled over high heat first, then simmered over low heat for 40-60 minutes. Stir the medicine 2-3 times when decocting it. Each dose of Chinese medicine is generally decocted twice, and the second decocting time can be slightly shorter.

4. Decoction amount: 50-100 ml per dose for children. Adults: 150-200 ml per dose.

5. Decoction methods of special medicines:

1. “Decoction first”: Boil for 10-15 minutes, then add other medicines and decoct together.

2. "Add medicine later": When the general medicine is about to be decocted to the predetermined amount, add it and simmer for 5 minutes.

3. "Dissolve the medicine": other medicines should be decocted to the intended dosage, then the medicine juice should be boiled over low heat, stirring constantly to dissolve.

4. “Take medicine with water”: Mix the medicine with decocted medicine juice or boiled water and take it with water.

5. Other special medicines should be decocted according to the doctor's instructions.

Introduction to Chinese medicine decoction method

1. Utensils for decocting medicine: When decocting medicine, it is best to use clay pots, stainless steel, glass, enamel, etc. Avoid using iron, aluminum, or copper pots. Because the former has relatively stable physical and chemical properties and is not easy to react with the ingredients in the drug, thus ensuring the efficacy of the drug. Iron and copper components are relatively active and can easily react with the ingredients in the drug, affecting its efficacy.

2. Soaking method: Before decocting the medicine, you should first put the medicine into the medicine pot, add clean cold water to soak the medicine, and add water to submerge the medicine surface 3-5cm. Soak for 20-60 minutes (the medicine will easily become moldy and deteriorate if soaked for too long). This is conducive to the decoction of the effective ingredients of the medicine.

3. Decoction method: Decoction each dose of medicine twice. For the first decoction, boil the soaked medicine over high heat, then use medium or low heat to keep the medicine boiling. For the second decoction, add a smaller amount of water (just enough to cover the surface of the medicine) and keep the heat the same as the first decoction. It is best to cover the pot when decocting. Generally speaking, be careful not to open the lid frequently when decocting medicine, otherwise the smell will easily be lost and the efficacy of the medicine will be reduced.

4. Decoction time: start counting the time after the medicine is boiled. For general medicines, the first decoction time is 20-30 minutes, and the second decoction time is 15-25 minutes; for tonic and solid medicines, the first decoction time is 40-60 minutes, and the second decoction time is about 30 minutes; for antipyretic, qi-regulating, and light and aromatic medicines, the first decoction time is 6-15 minutes, and the second decoction time is 5-10 minutes.

5. Filter the medicinal liquid: The amount of medicinal liquid to be decocted should be determined according to the patient's condition, age and other specific circumstances. The amount for adults is about 200-300 ml, and the amount for children is about 1/4-1/2 of that for adults, i.e. 50-150 ml. 6. Time of use: One dose per day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Take the first decoction in the morning and the second decoction in the afternoon. This will make the concentrations and effects of the two decoctions in the body uniform and reliable. You can also mix the two decoctions and take them twice a day, in the morning and afternoon, with a gap of about 6 hours between the two doses. It is best to take the medicine decocted on the same day and it should not be stored. Tonic medicines should be taken half an hour before meals; heat-clearing medicines and medicines that irritate the gastrointestinal tract should be taken half an hour after meals; for other medicines, please follow the doctor's advice. 7. Dosage: There are three ways to take the medicine: hot, warm, and cold. Generally speaking, diaphoretic and antipyretic drugs and warming and tonic drugs should be taken warm; cold-relieving drugs, drugs for treating joint pain and ulcers should be taken hot, and heat-clearing and detoxifying drugs should be taken cold. 8. Notes: You will often see Chinese medicine wrapped in paper or gauze in Chinese medicine packages, with words like decocted first, added later, decocted in a package, or taken with water. Be sure to do it as required, otherwise it will affect the effectiveness of the medicine. During the decocting process, you can add more water as needed, but keep stirring to prevent the pot from overflowing or sticking. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :

Many people often choose Western medicine for treatment when they are sick because they do not know how to make decoctions. The making of decoctions also requires certain skills. Otherwise, the decoctions will not be too dry or not cooked to the right degree, and the effect of the decoctions will not be reflected. After understanding the methods of making decoctions, many people will feel that making decoctions is not that complicated. Friends who are taking decoctions may wish to try this method.
