What are the hazards of genetically modified crops

In recent years, there have been more and more reports on the term GMO. Everyone should be aware of the concept of GMO, and the media debate about it has never stopped. So do you know specifically about the harm of GMO food to us? There are reports that some women have become infertile because of eating GMO food. From this, we can see the harm it can cause to us. Let's take a closer look.

The harm of genetically modified food to human health

(1) Genetically modified foods have changed the natural properties of the food we eat. The biological substances they use are not part of human food safety and have not undergone long-term human safety tests. This can pose a great health hazard to the human body.

(2) Genetically modified foods can cause unpredictable biological mutations and produce higher levels and new toxins in food.

(3) Allergic or allergic reactions: Genetic technology may produce unpredictable and unknown allergens in food. Scientists transplanted the properties of Brazil nut into soybeans, but as a result, some people who are allergic to walnuts may have an allergic reaction after consuming soybeans.

(4) Genetically modified foods reduce the nutritional value of food or degrade important ingredients in traditional food: Research data from the United States shows that in soybeans with herbicide-resistant genes, the amount of anti-cancer ingredients such as isoflavone hormones is reduced. The false freshness of genetically modified foods confuses consumers; shiny red tomatoes can be stored for weeks but have low nutritional value.

(5) Genetically modified crops are labeled with antibiotic-resistant genes using transgenic technology, which means that the crops carry antibiotic-resistant genes. These genes affect us through bacteria. British research shows that mutated genes in genetically modified crops may enter the body, which may result in new diseases. If similar results occur in humans and animals, it may be possible to cultivate the most powerful super bacteria that cannot be killed by antibiotics.

(6) Side effects can kill the human body: Mayeno, AN et al. (1994) reported a new, unexplained disease characterized by eosinophilic myalgia. Clinical manifestations include paralysis, nerve problems, painful swelling, itchy skin, heart problems, memory loss, headaches, photosensitivity, and weight loss. It was later found that the cause was tryptophan produced by genetically engineered bacteria produced by a Japanese company. Those who consumed it became ill three months later, resulting in 37 deaths, 1,500 partial paralysis, and more than 5,000 occasional weakness.

(7) In 2007, French scientists confirmed that a genetically modified corn produced by Monsanto was toxic to the human liver and kidneys.

The harm of genetically modified crops is obvious. We should all avoid genetically modified foods. We must learn more about the common sense in this area and firmly support non-genetically modified foods so that we and the next generation can have healthier bodies.
