I don’t know if you have ever seen a wax lizard in your life. The wax lizard is a kind of reptile. They usually live in coastal areas. Moreover, they are carnivores and usually eat insects. It is an endangered animal in China, so it is also our first-class protected animal. Because its number in our country has been becoming less and less, what are the nutritional values of wax lizards? The waxy lizard, also known as salon, pole dragon, mountain horse, and its English name is Reeves' butterflylizard. It is a reptile of the family Iguanidae. It is small in size, with a head and body length of about 150 mm, a slightly flat back and abdomen, and no iguana scales. China's Red Data Book of Endangered Animals: Endangered. It lives in sandy coastal areas and feeds on insects and lays eggs. Distributed both at home and abroad. There were certain numbers before the 1970s, but now the number in the wild is relatively small. Due to tourism and construction along the coast, habitats are shrinking. At the same time, their dried products are sold as geckos and they are killed in large numbers. The number has now decreased dramatically. It is large in size, with a head and body length of about 150mm and a tail length about twice that of the head and body. The back and abdomen are slightly flat, without mane scales. The trunk and back of the limbs are gray-brown, the back of the body is gray-brown with orange-red round spots, and the ventral side has black and orange-red patterns. The males have bright orange or orange-red eyespots with black circles, which are not noticeable in females. The sides of the body have irregular horizontal stripes of different shades. The belly is creamy yellow (male) or grayish white (female). The limbs are strong and the claws are well developed. The tail is cylindrical, with a wide and flat base and a whip-like end. There are 13 to 18 holes on each side. It lives in sandy coastal areas, digging holes on slightly sloping places. It is often seen on earthen mounds. The hole entrance is oblate, the hole is about 1 meter deep, and the hole forms a 30-degree angle with the ground. One lizard has one burrow. The burrow entrances of immature and female waxy lizards are flatter and shallower, while the burrow entrances of males are rounder and deeper. The male waxy lizard's burrow is usually near the female's. The soil at the entrance of the dug hole was pushed apart and the dug soil could not be seen. There was a fork about 50 cm inside the hole. One branch continued downward at a 30-degree angle to the habitat, and the other was an escape hole, which was dug upward at a 30-degree angle to 2 mm above the ground. When in danger, break out of the ground and escape from the escape hole at the last moment. Return to the cave before it rains and in the evening and seal the cave entrance with soil. This way of survival for waxy lizards is very safe. When the temperature is suitable during the day, they come out of their holes to look for food, feeding on insects. If disturbed, it will immediately run into the cave. Oviparous, the female lays about 6 eggs at a time in the roosting chamber inside her cave. |
