Why does the scab on the wound itch

Why does the scab on the wound itch

The scabs on the wounds are always accompanied by an itchy feeling. In fact, this is a normal phenomenon. As the wounds heal, new tissues will grow, and these new blood vessels and nerves are particularly densely packed together, which will cause an itchy feeling due to the stimulation.

1. This depends on the structure of the skin. Human skin is divided into multiple layers. The lowest layer of cells in the epidermis is called the germinal layer. It has strong vitality and can continuously grow and reproduce. Shallow wounds caused by epidermal damage rely on the germinal layer to heal, and the nerves are not stimulated. When this type of wound heals, there is generally no itchy feeling.

2. However, larger wounds that are deep into the dermis will often itch when they are healing. This is because the healing of deeper wounds is filled with a new tissue called connective tissue. New blood vessels and nerves need to grow connective tissue.

3. These new blood vessels and nerves are particularly dense and crowded together. The new nerves are easily stimulated, and because the nerves are very sensitive, they will produce an itchy feeling.

4. The regenerative capacity of various tissues in the human body is also different. The regenerative ability of nerve tissue is low and appears later in wound healing. Generally, when the nerves are about to heal, the wound is also about to heal. At this time, new nerve endings and blood vessels have grown into the connective tissue, and local perception is gradually restored, so the wound will itch.
