Is allergy hereditary?

Everyone has something in common with their parents. This is what we often call heredity, and allergic constitution is one of them. Many parents have allergic constitutions and often suffer from allergies for no reason. After having children, the possibility that their children have allergic constitutions is 60% to 70% higher than that of ordinary children. This article introduces the inheritance of allergic constitution and daily precautions for people with allergic constitution. People who have this problem can take a look at it.

What is an allergic constitution

People with allergic constitution are generally those who are prone to allergic reactions and allergic diseases but cannot find the cause of the disease. When a child has an allergic constitution, he or she will be more likely to develop allergic diseases, including eczema, allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, etc. You may also be allergic to other specific substances, such as metal allergy, pollen allergy, drug allergy, etc. However, occasional high reactivity to a known factor cannot be called "allergic constitution."

Are allergies hereditary?

Studies have shown that when both parents have allergies, 60-70% of their children may acquire allergies; when one parent has this constitution, 40-50% of the children will inherit it; if neither parent has allergies, 5-10% of the children may develop allergies. Studies have also shown that hereditary allergic reactions are systemic reactions that often affect multiple organs and occur simultaneously or successively.

People with allergic constitutions usually suffer from various allergic diseases at different ages. For example, infants aged 0 to 2 years may develop eczema, be allergic to milk and eggs, have itchy skin, vomiting, or diarrhea; allergic rhinitis may occur around the age of 3; and allergic asthma may occur around the age of 6. However, people with allergies in the same family may not necessarily experience the same symptoms or the same allergic diseases.

Daily precautions for people with allergies

1. Reduce the number of plant decorations in your home. The moist soil in potted plants is an ideal breeding ground for mold, which can easily lead to fungal allergies in children.

2. Keep the room dry and ventilated, and do not use thick curtains.

3. Don’t let the house be filled with smoke. Parents or guests should not smoke indoors and avoid taking children to public places where smoking occurs.

4. To eliminate indoor dust mites, wash bedding with hot water above 55°C every week, dry it in the sun, and use high-count cotton quilt covers.

5. Do not use stuffed or plush toys, carpets or tapestries.

6. Children with allergies should be vaccinated with caution, because some vaccines contain foreign proteins and are likely to cause allergic symptoms.

7. Take your children to exercise regularly to strengthen their physical fitness and reduce the occurrence of colds.
