There is a mystery behind the five kinds of liquids flowing out of the body

The five liquids refer to sweat, mucus, tears, saliva, and spit. The Suwen Xuanming Five Qi chapter says: "The five internal organs transform into liquids. The heart turns into sweat, the lungs turn into mucus, the liver turns into tears, the spleen turns into saliva, and the kidneys turn into spit. These are called the five liquids." Clinically, if the secretion of the five internal organs is abnormal, it can reflect the pathology of the corresponding organs.

Sweat: The Fluid of the Heart

Its excretion is physiologically controlled by the mind. For example, when you feel cold, the pores close and there is no sweat. When you feel hot in hot weather, when you exercise or when you wear too thick clothes, the pores open and there is more sweat. There are two main types of sweat abnormalities: spontaneous sweating and night sweats. If the heart yang is insufficient and the heart qi is weak, it cannot "guard" the heart fluid, then spontaneous sweating will occur. At this time, qi and yang should be replenished. Most patients with yang deficiency are cold and afraid of cold, and are easily affected by wind and cold, so the indoor temperature should be slightly warmer and warming and nourishing treatment should be used. Patients with qi deficiency should pay attention to rest. It is recommended to take 150 ml of decocted jujube, black beans, and astragalus twice a day, and pay attention to regular daily life. People with insufficient heart yin and blood are prone to night sweats. The diet of such people should be mainly light and nourishing, and they should avoid spicy food such as lamb, chili peppers, ginger and onions. Patients with night sweats tend to have a hot and dry constitution, so the room temperature should be low and humid.

Mucus: Liquid from the lungs

The lung opens to the nose. When the lung is full of fluid, it comes out of the nose as mucus. Mucus can moisturize the nasal passages, keep them unobstructed, and ensure normal breathing and olfactory functions. Lung diseases can be seen from abnormal nasal discharge. If the lung yin is deficient, the patient may experience dry nose without mucus. It is recommended to lower the indoor temperature and maintain a certain humidity. Use a spoonful of Tremella fuciformis, lily, Adenophora radix and honey, simmer on low heat for half an hour, boil 150 ml of the soup, and take orally twice a day. Avoid spicy and fried foods. People whose lung qi is not functioning properly due to wind and cold often have clear nasal discharge. Such people should keep the air fresh indoors, but avoid being struck by cold wind. Chinese medicine should be taken hot. After taking the medicine, lie down quietly, cover yourself with a blanket or drink hot porridge to promote sweating and drive away the cold. People with yellow and turbid nasal discharge should clear the lungs and release heat. Chinese medicine should be taken cold or slightly warm, and you should eat more light and nourishing meals, and pay attention to ensuring that your nose is unobstructed.

Tears: The fluid of the liver

The liver opens up to the eyes. When liver blood and liver fluid are full, they overflow from the eye orifices as tears. Tears can nourish the eyes. If there is any disease in the liver, it will be manifested in abnormal tears.

Less tears and dry eyes indicate insufficient liver yin and blood, and you should nourish the liver and blood. Avoid getting angry and eat clean and nourishing food. Tears and itchy eyes in the wind are caused by wind evil in the liver meridian. You should use your eyes less and keep them clean. You can also use wild chrysanthemum and mulberry leaves boiled in water to fumigate and wash your eyes. If the tears are hot and sticky and the eyes are sensitive to light and painful, it means there is heat in the liver meridian. You can use a cotton swab dipped in water to wipe the lacrimal sac several times a day. Avoid spicy and irritating foods, and keep bowel movements open so that the heat evil can be discharged downward. Elderly people with weak qi and blood, and liver and kidney yin deficiency often shed tears. It is recommended to nourish the liver and kidneys, replenish qi and blood, strengthen nutrition, and control sexual intercourse.

Saliva: The fluid of the kidney

When the kidney Qi is vigorous, the kidney's Yin essence rises to the mouth as saliva, which has the function of moistening the mouth and dissolving food. Abnormal changes in saliva can reflect kidney disease. Bitter, dry, and dry mouth with little saliva, and weakness in the waist and knees are caused by liver and kidney yin deficiency. You can take a decoction of wolfberry and adenophora. At the same time, regulate your emotions, pay attention to rest, avoid spicy and stimulating foods, and avoid smoking and drinking. Excessive salivation or clear and cold saliva should be treated with warming yang and promoting diuresis. It is recommended to be careful in daily life, prevent external infection, keep the skin clean, and eat more light and easily digestible food.

Saliva: The fluid of the spleen

The spleen opens up at the mouth, and the spleen's Yin essence goes up to the mouth and becomes saliva, which is mainly used to dissolve food and aid digestion. People with weak spleen and stomach may experience tasteless mouth, nausea and excessive drooling, and should warm the middle and strengthen the spleen. Avoid cold and hot food, apply hot compress to the stomach, or take ginger soup or glutinous rice porridge with a few red dates. Excessive stomach fire can manifest as dry mouth and less saliva. People with this condition should avoid spicy and stimulating foods, and eat more fruits, fresh vegetables, and cool drinks. They can also drink decoction of Ophiopogon japonicus and Adenophora radix.
