Rabbit viral hemorrhagic disease

Rabbit viral hemorrhagic disease

Rabbit plague is an acute and highly contagious disease caused by rabbit hemorrhagic virus. Once rabbits are infected with this disease, the mortality rate is very high. It is a great threat to rabbit farmers. Usually, in order to reduce losses and prevent the occurrence of this disease, rabbits need to be vaccinated in advance. In unusual cases, what is the prevention method of rabbit viral hemorrhagic disease?

Prevention of Rabbit Viral Hemorrhagic Disease

Vaccine prevention is the best means of controlling this disease, but the effectiveness of vaccination is related to many factors, such as vaccine quality, injection dose, maternal antibody interference, etc. So when administering the vaccine, you must pay attention to the following points:

(1) Injections are carried out according to the immunization process. The first injection is after weaning, with a dose of 2 ml, because a portion of it may be absorbed by maternal antibodies. The second injection is at 2 months of age, at this time for booster immunization, and thereafter immunization is carried out every 4 to 6 months.

(2) When injecting the vaccine, the injection site must be disinfected with alcohol, the syringe and needle must be boiled for disinfection, and the needle must be replaced after each injection.

(3) Dead rabbits and their excrement are highly contagious and must be buried deep or incinerated. Rabbit farms must be strictly disinfected and rabbit cages must be burned with flames.

Rabbit viral hemorrhagic disease, commonly known as rabbit plague, is a highly contagious disease caused by rabbit viral hemorrhagic disease virus with extremely high morbidity and mortality rates. Its pathological changes are characterized by hemorrhage and necrosis of organs such as the lungs and liver. Rabbit plague only infects domestic rabbits. Humans and other animals, including wild rabbits, will not be infected. Rabbit plague is highly infectious to young and adult rabbits, with extremely high morbidity and mortality rates, but lactating rabbits do not become ill. This disease can occur throughout the year, but it is more common in winter and spring, and is often explosive. The virus can be transmitted through multiple routes including the digestive tract, respiratory tract, trauma, oral cavity and conjunctiva.

According to clinical symptoms, it can be divided into 3 categories

(1) The most acute type, with an incubation period of 36-96 hours. The patient does not have any symptoms and may suddenly cry out and fall to the ground and die while eating. In the early stages of the outbreak, the morbidity and mortality rates of unvaccinated rabbit populations were as high as 90%, or even completely wiped out.

(2) Acute type: The sick rabbit is depressed, moves little, and is thirsty. Before dying, it suddenly becomes excited and restless, runs wildly, and falls to the ground with its limbs in a paddling position. It screams a few times and dies. Some dead rabbits had foamy blood flowing from their nostrils, their anus became loose before death, and the surface of their fecal balls was covered with a yellowish jelly-like liquid.

(3) Chronic type: The course of the disease is longer and may last for 5 to 6 days. It is more common in old epidemic areas and in the late stage of the disease, or in weaned rabbits. Generally, the rabbits will die, but some may recover.
