How long can sherry be kept

Sherry is a kind of alcoholic beverage, but it is actually quite different from ordinary alcoholic beverages. Its function is more inclined towards health care and wellness. Appropriate drinking of sherry can actually play a great role in improving our health and solving some physical diseases. However, sherry is not like some cellared wines. The longer it is stored, the better. The storage of sherry is limited in time.

For cellared wines like red wine, the longer they are stored, the more mellow they will be. However, sherry is generally stored for more than a year, so when we drink sherry, we still need to pay attention to how long it has been stored.

Under suitable external environment conditions, a normal bottle of sherry can be aged for at least 18 months, while different types or styles of sherry have different aging potentials, some of which can be aged for up to 48 months. Sherry does not need to be stored flat like ordinary wine, it can be stored upright, but it is best stored in a low-light and relatively quiet place to avoid excessive oxidation of the sherry.

1. Dry Sherry

In terms of type or style, dry sherries include Fino, Manzanilla, Amontillado and Olorosos. These sherries should be drunk young to ensure they retain their fresh taste. Fino Sherry can be aged for 12-18 months, but will only keep for around a week once opened, and the same is true for Manzanilla Sherry. Amontillado Sherry is full of nutty flavors and can usually be aged for 18-36 months, and its flavor is guaranteed to remain unchanged for 2-3 weeks after opening the bottle. Oloroso Sherry can be aged for more than 36 months and is guaranteed not to deteriorate for 4-6 weeks after opening the bottle.

2. Sweet Sherry

Sweet sherries have a longer aging potential than dry sherries. Medium-sweet sherry is usually a blend of Manzanilla sherry and cream sherry. It can usually be aged for 18-36 months, but once opened, it is best consumed within 2-3 weeks. Cream sherry is a blend of Oloroso sherry and sweet sherry. It has an aging capacity of 24-36 months and can maintain its flavor for up to 4-6 weeks after opening the bottle.

There are actually different types of sherry, so the storage time will also be different, but generally it will not exceed two or three years. Drinking sherry at the right time will bring benefits to our health, but if the time is wrong, it may affect your health.
