Treatment of encephalitis

Treatment of encephalitis

Society is progressing day by day, but the handling and treatment of human diseases have not advanced as fast as social progress. The treatment of many diseases is still at the previous stage, such as cancer, AIDS, etc., without any substantial progress. However, for diseases like encephalitis, medical treatments are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and now with proper treatment, the disease can be cured.

In fact, most complications of encephalitis are caused by viral infection. Generally, the onset of encephalitis comes suddenly. So what methods does current medical technology have for the treatment of encephalitis? Let's introduce them in detail below:

Encephalitis refers to an inflammatory lesion caused by the invasion of brain parenchyma by pathogens. The vast majority of causes are viruses, but they can also be caused by infections such as bacteria, fungi, spirochetes, rickettsia, parasites, etc. Some may be allergic diseases, such as acute disseminated encephalomyelitis. Encephalitis usually refers to viral encephalitis and post-infectious encephalomyelitis, which is acute disseminated encephalomyelitis.

Encephalitis can occur in different genders and ages, and is usually acute or subacute. Clinically, it is characterized by symptoms such as high fever, headache, vomiting, coma, and convulsions, most of which are accompanied by changes in cerebrospinal fluid composition. Prevention and treatment should be carried out according to different causes.

There are two common clinical manifestations of encephalitis:

1. Systemic toxic blood symptoms

Fever, headache, body aches, nausea, vomiting, fatigue. A few patients have hemorrhagic rash and myocarditis symptoms.

2. Neurological symptoms

Impaired consciousness, meningeal irritation signs. Flaccid paralysis of the cervical and scapular muscles may occur, causing the head to droop and the arms to be unable to be raised, resulting in the person tottering and helpless. Involvement of cranial nerves and lower limbs is rare. Paralysis can be recovered in 2 to 3 weeks, and about half of the muscles will atrophy. Mild cases may have no obvious neurological symptoms.

Treatments for encephalitis include:

1. Symptomatic treatment

Glucocorticoids: hydrocortisone or dexamethasone, added to 5% glucose solution and dripped intravenously. Start with a higher dose and gradually reduce it. The course of treatment should not exceed 1 month.

Dehydration and diuresis: 20% mannitol intravenous drip, the course of treatment depends on the condition; or glycerol fructose intravenous drip.

Cooling: mainly physical cooling.

Antipsychotics: For psychomotor excitement, chlorpromazine, perphenazine or telden may be given, and the dosage should be individualized.

2. Antiviral treatment

Inhibit viral replication in the body by using acyclovir, iodine, cytarabine, adenosine, etc.

To prevent viruses from penetrating cells, use amantadine and cyclohexetine.

Interferon, an antiviral protein produced by human cells, is injected intramuscularly. The course of treatment depends on the condition and should be used early.

Prevent virus adsorption to immunoglobulin G and placental globulin.

We must believe in science, believe in medicine, and believe in the efforts of others. Just like the current treatment of encephalitis, as long as the treatment is timely and the treatment method is correct, encephalitis patients will recover. So one day, we humans will be able to develop drugs to treat cancer and AIDS. At that time, we will no longer have to worry about any disease disturbing our health.
