What's going on with the low-grade fever

In our lives, what is low fever? After the disease occurs, it is recommended that we know that this disease will cause low fever. What kind of symptom is fever? Let’s take a look at the introduction of relevant knowledge so that we can cure stubborn diseases in our body.

After a disease like low-grade fever occurs, it can actually cause greater harm. Fever is a symptom. Rheumatism, even tuberculosis, chronic inflammation, or diseases that cause low immunity can all cause persistent low fever. Long-term psychological tension and emotional instability can also cause disorders in the body's temperature center, resulting in persistent low fever of unknown cause.

Do not abuse medicine for unexplained low-grade fever. Fever is one of the body's responses to disease. Taking antipyretics for patients with low fever is not conducive to the treatment of the disease. Indiscriminate use of antipyretics may also lead to a decrease in white blood cells and aplastic anemia. Antipyretics should only be considered when the body temperature is above 38°C. Clinically, it is more common in young people aged 20-30 years old, and the patient's body temperature is 0.3℃-0.5℃ higher than normal. The duration of low-grade fever varies from several months to several years. The general condition is good and there is no weight loss. This type of patients accounts for about 1/3 of the total number of patients with long-term low-grade fever and has a good prognosis.

Long-term low-grade fever is also seen in viral infections, mainly in infants and young children, and is more common in throat infections without systemic manifestations. ——General examinations show no obvious abnormalities and no respiratory symptoms. Most of the time, the patient has a low-grade fever that persists for a long time after a high fever caused by a viral infection. When older children are infected with streptococci or Staphylococcus aureus in the throat, they may also have a long-term low-grade fever. A pharyngeal secretion culture can be performed, and if bacteria can be found, the diagnosis can be confirmed. If it is a streptococcal infection, blood can be drawn to check for anti-streptolysin (abbreviated as anti-"O"). If the titer is high, it means that there has been a streptococcal infection. If the anti-"O" level increases significantly, the possibility of rheumatic fever should also be considered. Attention should be paid to whether there is joint pain or swelling, whether there is annular erythema on the skin, and whether there are changes in the heart. These are the basis for diagnosing rheumatic fever. Girls with long-term low-grade fever should pay attention to urinary tract infection, which can be confirmed by urine examination.

What is the cause of low-grade fever? In fact, long-term low-grade fever may have nothing to do with infection, but such a disease may be caused by other factors. In terms of blood diseases, leukemia and hemolytic anemia can both cause low fever. We must understand this situation.
