What causes stiff neck

What causes stiff neck

It is inevitable that people will get stiff neck in their life, and they will feel painful after getting stiff neck. Most patients undergo simple treatment with the help of their families, and home care becomes more important. What is a stiff neck? Having a stiff neck is very normal and people don’t have to worry about any other effects. People are not awake when they are sleeping, so incorrect sleeping posture can lead to stiff neck.

What is stiff neck? The following is an introduction to the causes of stiff neck. A stiff neck can cause back discomfort, neck pain and inability to twist, etc. These symptoms are very painful and make it inconvenient to do anything. If people have a stiff neck, they can do some massage at home or go to the hospital for treatment, which can also relieve the pain.

The clinical manifestation of stiff neck is sudden pain and discomfort in the back of the neck and upper back when waking up in the morning, which is mostly on one side, or pain on both sides, or one side is heavier and the other side is lighter. Most patients can recall that they had a poor sleeping position last night. During examination, the neck muscles were tender. Due to the pain, the neck movements were poor and could not rotate freely. In severe cases, it was difficult to pitch forward or backward, and the head might even be rigid in an abnormal position, tilting toward the affected side. During examination, the neck muscles are tender, the superficial muscles are spasmodic and stiff, and they feel "stringy" to the touch.

Stiff neck refers to the sudden pain in the neck muscles after sleeping or trauma, especially when the head and neck are turned. The causes of stiff neck are:

1. Improper head and neck posture during sleep;

2. The pillow is too high, too soft or too hard, or uneven;

3. Neck trauma; such as poor sleeping posture at night, the head and neck are in an over-deflected position for a long time; or because of an inappropriate pillow during sleep, which is too high, too low or too hard, causing the head and neck to be in a state of hyperextension or hyperflexion, which can cause tension in the muscles on one side of the neck and twisting of the small joints of the cervical vertebra. Static injury can occur over a long period of time, making the muscles and tendons of the injured area stiff and disharmony, qi and blood circulation poor, local pain and discomfort, and obvious limitation of movement.

4. The neck is exposed to wind and cold; for example, catching a cold while sleeping or seeking coolness in the hot summer will cause stagnation of qi and blood in the neck and back, obstruction of tendons and meridians, resulting in stiffness, pain, and difficulty in movement.

5. If it is caused by cervical spondylosis, it may cause repeated "stiff neck".

What is a stiff neck? Stiff neck will occur in people's lifetime, and there are many reasons for it. People have a certain understanding and knowledge about the above introduction to stiff neck. If such a situation occurs in life, you can deal with it yourself or go to the hospital for treatment, so as to relieve pain and reduce the burden of pain.
