Ventricular septal defect

Ventricular septal defect

There are many types of diseases. When it comes to treating diseases, the choice of methods is very critical. Many people don’t know what treatment method to choose when treating diseases. If you want to be able to treat your own diseases well, you also need to have a good understanding of the diseases you have, so that it will be very helpful for the treatment of diseases. So what is ventricular septal defect?

Many people don’t know much about ventricular septal defect, and don’t know what to do when it happens. So when it happens, it is necessary to check it out in time to see what can be done to improve the problem.

Ventricular septal defect:

Ventricular septal defect refers to the incomplete development of the ventricular septum during the embryonic period, forming an abnormal communication and causing a left-to-right shunt at the ventricular level. Ventricular septal defect is the most common congenital heart disease, accounting for about 20% of congenital heart diseases. It can exist alone or coexist with other malformations. The defect is usually 0.1 to 3 cm. Those located in the membranous part are larger, while those located in the muscular part are smaller. The latter is also called Roger's disease. If the defect is less than 0.5 cm, the shunt flow is small and there are usually no clinical symptoms. If the defect is small, the heart can be normal size; if the defect is large, the left ventricle is significantly larger than the right ventricle.

Cause: According to the location of the defect, it can be divided into five types:

1. Supraventricular crestal defect

It is located in the right ventricular outflow tract, above the supraventricular ridge and below the aortic and pulmonary valves. In a few cases, it is combined with aortic and pulmonary valve insufficiency.

2. Subcrestal defect

Located in the membranous part of the ventricular septum, this type is the most common, accounting for 60% to 70%.

3. Posterior septal defect

Located in the right ventricular inflow tract, behind the tricuspid valve septum, accounting for about 20%.

4. Muscle defect

Located at the apex of the heart, it is a trabecular defect. During systole, the contraction of the ventricular septum myocardium makes the defect smaller, so the left-to-right shunt volume is small.

5. Common ventricle

The membranous and muscular parts of the ventricular septum are not developed, or there are multiple defects, which is rare.

Through the above introduction, we have some understanding of ventricular septal defect, which refers to the phenomenon caused by incomplete embryonic development. When such a situation occurs, we also need to look at the specific details. If it is very serious, abortion surgery is required to avoid fetal malformations.
