For some patients, the condition gradually improves with age.

Onychodystrophy can be congenital onychodystrophy or acquired onychodystrophy. Congenital nail dystrophy is due to autosomal dominant inheritance causing congenital ectodermal dysplasia, or epidermolysis bullosa, or nail patella syndrome, or clubbing leading to nail hypoplasia, developmental defects, congenital malformations, or systemic diseases secondary to dominant inheritance. There are many reasons for acquired nail dystrophy to cause poor nail growth, which can be directly caused by nutritional deficiencies, including vitamin deficiency, iron deficiency anemia, etc.

It may be caused by malnutrition of the body caused by various acute infectious diseases or other acute diseases; it may also be caused by chronic wasting diseases, especially nail malnutrition caused by hypothyroidism, poisoning, liver disease, blood circulation disorders, and poor lung function; many skin diseases such as psoriasis, malignant alopecia areata, lichen planus, syphilis, leprosy, systemic sclerosis, follicular keratosis, palmoplantar keratosis and progeria may be accompanied by nail nutritional disorders. Other factors such as trauma, frostbite, burns and many local factors may also cause it.

Through the above introduction, we have a good understanding of the causes of nail malnutrition. When such a situation occurs, timely treatment is needed, otherwise the damage to one's own health will be relatively large.
