How to use a thermometer

Everyone should be familiar with thermometers. We use thermometers to measure body temperature when we have a fever. Some families with children now also have spare thermometers. With a thermometer, we can measure the child's temperature in time. If a fever occurs, we can also take some measures in time. There are many types of thermometers now. Common ones are mercury thermometers and electronic thermometers. Let's take a look at how to use a thermometer.

There are many types of thermometers. Do you know how to use different types of thermometers? The most commonly used thermometer in our daily life should be the mercury thermometer. We should all know how to use it, but do you know how to use other types of thermometers?

There are currently three common types of thermometers: mercury thermometer, electronic thermometer, and infrared ear thermometer. The most common thermometer is the mercury thermometer, which allows the mercury column to maintain its original position as body temperature rises, making it easy for the user to observe at any time. Because the structure of glass is relatively dense, the performance of mercury is very stable. Electronic thermometers display body temperature in digital form, with clear readings and easy to carry. The infrared ear thermometer measures the body temperature without contact by measuring the radiation brightness of the eardrum. Just aim the probe at the inner ear canal and press the measurement button, and you can get the measurement data in just a few seconds. It is very suitable for critically ill patients, the elderly, infants and young children, etc. This article will tell you in detail how to use these three thermometers.

How to use a mercury thermometer:

1. If the mercury thermometer is not used alone, wipe it with alcohol cotton (alcohol-free cotton can be cleaned with cold water) and then dry it before measuring.

2. Shake the mercury in the traditional mercury thermometer to below 35 degrees.

3. Place the mercury thermometer under the armpit and clamp it tightly. Note that the mercury should be in the middle of the armpit.

4. Keep your arms clamped tight and do not loosen them or move around.

5. After measuring, take out the mercury thermometer to check the result and then clean it.

How to use a digital thermometer

The electronic thermometer can measure ear temperature and forehead temperature. The switch between ear temperature and forehead temperature measurement can be automatically switched by removing or covering the head cover. How to use an electronic thermometer to measure ear temperature - remove the head cover, press the scan button to start, insert the measuring probe into the ear canal, press the scan button once, and when you hear a "whoosh" sound, the measurement is complete. How to use an electronic thermometer to measure forehead temperature - put on the head cover, press the scan button to start, place the measuring probe flat on one temple, press and hold the scan button, and move it along the forehead to the other temple. After hearing a "beep" sound, the measurement is completed.

How to use infrared ear thermometer:

1. To avoid the accuracy of the ear thermometer being affected by an overly cold or overheated environment, the ear thermometer must be placed in a general environment at room temperature (16℃~35℃) for at least 30 minutes before use to avoid incorrect measurement results.

3. The subject should stay at room temperature for at least 20 minutes to allow the body temperature to equilibrate.

4. Avoid getting your ears wet before use and keep your ears clean. Accurate temperature can only be measured when there is no obstruction or excessive earwax accumulation in the ear.

5. After strenuous exercise, you should rest for at least 30 minutes before measuring.

6. Please do not measure ear temperature when you just wake up, because the temperature of the ear that is pressed will be higher than normal body temperature.

7. Usually the temperature measured between the left ear and the right ear will be slightly different, so it is recommended to measure the body temperature in the same ear.

8. When performing repeated measurements, please remove the probe head between each measurement and rest for at least 5 seconds before taking the next measurement. This will provide the most accurate measurement results.

9. The normal measurement value is about 35.5℃~37.8℃. Users should measure their body temperature more often to understand their healthy temperature. If there is any abnormality, pay attention to physical changes or consult your doctor.

10. After each measurement, the detection head of the TRULY infrared ear thermometer must be cleaned with alcohol to prevent earwax blockage from affecting the measurement results, so as to ensure the accuracy of the next measurement.

It is necessary to know how to use a thermometer. Some people buy a thermometer home, but they don’t know how to use it, so they can’t measure the accurate body temperature in time. If you know more about how to use the thermometer we introduced today, you can accurately measure body temperature.
