How to use a blood pressure monitor

How to use a blood pressure monitor

Today's society is a fast-paced society and a high-tempo society. As people's quality of life improves, their stress is also increasing. Blood pressure diseases are no longer exclusive to the elderly. Young people today also suffer from blood pressure diseases due to staying up late and stress, etc. As a qualified family member, everyone should have a blood pressure monitor at home. The blood pressure monitor has entered everyone's life.

Even though young people may get this disease, the majority of the patients are still elderly people. This is because their mental and physical abilities are gradually deteriorating, and their ability to accept new things is also constantly weakening. Therefore, it can be said that it is somewhat difficult for them to learn how to use a sphygmomanometer. The best way is for children to help with the measurement.

How to use the electronic blood pressure monitor:

1. You can go to the toilet 20 minutes before measuring your blood pressure. Holding your urine will have a certain impact on your blood pressure. After that, just sit at the table and do not exercise or smoke.

2. After wearing it for 15 minutes, relax and then let the air out of the cuff of the electronic blood pressure monitor and tie it on your left or right arm, making sure it is level with your heart. And you can't wear thick clothes such as sweaters, the cuffs should be in contact with the skin or you can only wear a thin piece of clothing.

3. Turn on the start button of the electronic blood pressure monitor to measure, and then check the measurement time according to the instruction manual of the electronic blood pressure monitor. The specific time shall be subject to the instruction manual of the electronic blood pressure monitor. (Time may vary for different models)

4. During the measurement process, keep your arms relaxed and your palms open, do not clench your fists. Measure again after resting for 3-5 minutes and take the average value as the result of this measurement. The best time to measure is 1 hour after waking up or 1 hour before going to bed.

How to use a mercury sphygmomanometer

1. Correct posture: The sphygmomanometer should be kept at the same level as the arm and heart being measured. The subject can choose to sit or lie down for measurement.

2. Turn on the sphygmomanometer and let the mercury reading drop to zero. After exhausting the air in the blood pressure monitor cuff, put it on the arm 2 to 3 cm above the elbow joint (it is better to choose the left arm for measurement because the left arm is closer to the heart and the measured data is relatively stable).

3. Tie the air cuff (not too tight or too loose), feel the brachial artery pulsation on the inner side of the elbow, place the stethoscope head on the brachial artery, and tighten the air valve on the air cuff. Quickly inflate and test the pressure. When pumping, the person measuring should look at the mercury column of the sphygmomanometer (make sure your sight and the scale are kept at the same level as much as possible)

4. Open the air valve to allow the mercury to drop slowly. When you hear the first pulse beat, the reading displayed is the systolic blood pressure value. Continue to deflate and listen until the pulse sound becomes weaker or even disappears at a certain blood pressure scale. The blood pressure displayed at this time is the diastolic pressure. The person being measured should remain calm before measurement. After measuring, you should re-measure after at least 1 to 2 minutes. The average of the two measurements was selected as the measured blood pressure value.

There are many types of sphygmomanometers. Most hospitals now use manual ones, which are mercury sphygmomanometers. Because electronic sphygmomanometers are precise instruments, if the movement is not standard, there is a great possibility of measurement errors. The more precise the instrument, the more susceptible it is to external interference.
