How long can you live with thyroid cancer

Thyroid cancer is now a very common disease. It is the most common malignant tumor among thyroid diseases. The symptoms of this disease are not very obvious in the early stages. Once the disease is discovered, it is already very serious. If you suffer from thyroid cancer, it will be a great blow to the patient and his family. The patient's life safety is also seriously threatened. So how long can you live with thyroid cancer?

Thyroid cancer is very easy to metastasize, but the prognosis of this disease is generally good. Even if some patients have metastasized, they can still survive for many years. I believe that the most concerning issue for people with cancer should be how long they can live with thyroid cancer.

There are many factors involved in prognosis, such as age, gender, pathological type, extent of lesions, metastasis and surgical method, among which pathological type is the most important.

95% of patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer can survive for a long time, especially papillary adenocarcinoma, which tends to have good biological characteristics and the best prognosis. However, a few can also transform into highly malignant undifferentiated cancer; undifferentiated cancer has the worst prognosis, and patients often die within half a year. Generally, 50% to 60% of early-stage patients can be cured using immunochemotherapy. If molecular targeted combined chemotherapy is used, the cure rate will be greatly improved and the patient's survival will be effectively prolonged. Therefore, lymphoma has a good chance of being cured.

Other "lucky" tumors like lymphoma include thyroid cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, and gynecological tumors such as malignant hydatidiform mole and multiple gestational carcinoma.

Some endocrine-related tumors have a high early cure rate. For example, thyroid cancer has a low degree of malignancy and a slow course of disease, and patients can survive for a long time with regular treatment. The early detection rate of cervical cancer can reach more than 90%, and its cure rate can even reach 100% with timely treatment. Moreover, from clinical observations, compared with other malignant tumors, endocrine-related tumors are very sensitive to drugs and can achieve better therapeutic effects.

1. Oncogenes: A variety of nuclear oncogenes are expressed in thyroid follicular cells and play an important role in cell growth and differentiation. Overexpression of normal genes, altered gene expression, loss of inhibitory genes, and amplification of oncogenes can all cause cells to become malignant and develop into malignant tumors.

2. Growth factors: such as thyroid-stimulating hormone, insulin-like growth factor, transforming growth factor, etc. The ptc oncogene was isolated from papillary thyroid carcinoma cells.

3. Ionizing radiation: X-rays are carcinogenic. The carcinogenic mechanism is that radiation induces cell mutations and promotes growth. At sublethal doses, it can kill some cells and reduce the secretion of helper T cells, which in turn feeds back to the pituitary thyroid-stimulating cells to increase the production of thyroid-stimulating hormone, thereby promoting the proliferation and canceration of potentially malignant cells. It is widely accepted that radiation is a factor that causes thyroid cancer.

4. Iodine deficiency: Its relationship with the occurrence of thyroid tumors is still unclear. Thyroid cancer is not only common in areas with endemic goiter, but also in coastal areas with high iodine levels. The goiter areas are mostly thyroid carcinoma, some are anaplastic carcinoma, and the high iodine areas are mostly papillary carcinoma.

Once thyroid cancer is diagnosed, not only will the patient be in pain, but the entire family will also devastate. We should not worry about such a heavy question as how long a patient with thyroid cancer can live. If you have this disease, you must actively seek treatment, convey a positive and optimistic attitude to the patient, and do a good job of caring for the patient so that the patient can be in a good mood.
