How to prevent hemorrhoids

As the saying goes, "Nine out of ten people have hemorrhoids." Hemorrhoids are a common anorectal disease. Many people are troubled by hemorrhoids, and people of all ages are affected. Severe hemorrhoids will have a certain impact on work and life. Some patients will heal themselves, but they will often relapse due to dietary stimulation. The main symptoms of hemorrhoids are anal pain during defecation, accompanied by blood in the stool. Severe cases require surgical treatment.

Hemorrhoids are caused by a variety of inducing factors, such as long-term constipation, a preference for spicy food, etc. Hemorrhoids are divided into three forms: internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids, and mixed hemorrhoids. Among them, mixed hemorrhoids have a poor prognosis. So how can we avoid hemorrhoids? Let’s take a look.

1. Strengthen your exercise

Regular participation in various sports activities can have a certain preventive effect on hemorrhoids. This is because physical exercise is beneficial in accelerating blood circulation, improving pelvic congestion, promoting gastrointestinal motility, and preventing constipation. On the other hand, you can consciously contract your anus upward, once in the morning and once in the evening, 30 times each time, to exercise your anal sphincter. Regular use can improve hemorrhoidal venous return and play a certain role in the prevention and self-treatment of hemorrhoids.

2. Reasonable diet

Your daily diet should avoid being too refined. You can eat more vegetables, fruits, beans and other coarse grains that are rich in vitamins and fiber. Drink plenty of water to keep the stool lubricated and unobstructed. Eat less spicy and irritating foods, such as peppers, garlic, onions, mustard, etc.

3. Get rid of bad bowel habits

When you feel the urge to defecate, do not hold it in, because holding it in for a long time can inhibit physiological reflexes and gradually cause habitual constipation; squatting on the toilet for too long, reading newspapers, or exerting excessive force when defecating are all bad bowel habits and should be corrected.

4. Regular bowel movements

There is usually no feces in the rectum of a healthy person. With the upright reflex caused by getting up in the morning and the stomach and colon reflex caused by breakfast, the colon can produce strong "group peristalsis" to push the feces into the rectum. When the feces in the rectum accumulates to a certain amount, the urge to defecate will occur. Therefore, it is best to develop the habit of regular bowel movements every morning, which plays an extremely important role in preventing the occurrence of hemorrhoids.

5. Keep the area around the anus clean

The anus, rectum, and sigmoid colon are the places where feces are stored and excreted. Feces contain many bacteria, and the area around the anus is easily contaminated by these bacteria, which can induce infection of the sweat glands and sebaceous glands around the anus and cause sores, boils, and abscesses. The female vagina is adjacent to the anus, and the abundant vaginal secretions can irritate the anal skin and induce hemorrhoids. Therefore, you should always keep the area around your anus clean and change your underwear frequently to prevent hemorrhoids.

6. Pay attention to health care during pregnancy

After pregnancy, abdominal pressure increases and the inferior vena cava is compressed by the enlarged uterus, which directly affects the return of hemorrhoidal veins and easily induces hemorrhoids. In addition, the lack of activity during pregnancy can cause the gastrointestinal function to weaken, the feces to remain in the intestinal cavity, and the water in the feces to be absorbed, causing the stool to become dry and difficult to pass, and inducing hemorrhoids. During pregnancy, you should exercise appropriately, avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time, keep your bowels open, and use warm water to fumigate and wash the anus after defecation to improve local blood circulation in the anus.

Hemorrhoids are a chronic disease in the anorectal department, and prevention is the main focus. Once you have hemorrhoids, they are very likely to recur and are difficult to eradicate. If you find yourself having abnormal bowel movements, you should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible. Do not go to the clinic to buy medicine by yourself, otherwise it is easy to cause misdiagnosis. Just maintain good living habits and ensure that hemorrhoids do not recur.
