In daily life, we must be aware of the dietary taboos for diabetics. Generally speaking, diabetics are the same as other people and should avoid eating too much salt. Eating too much salt will accelerate cardiovascular disease (accounting for about 70% of the causes of death among diabetics), especially the occurrence of hypertension. Modern medical research has proved that excessive salt can enhance the activity of amylase and promote starch digestion, as well as the absorption of free glucose in the small intestine, which can cause an increase in blood sugar concentration and aggravate the condition. Therefore, the salt intake of diabetics, especially those with hypertension and diabetic nephropathy, should be strictly limited.


What diabetics fear most is high blood sugar. If blood sugar is high, all previous treatments will be in vain. Therefore, to control diabetes, the first thing to do is to control blood sugar. Among the foods we commonly see, the following foods can easily increase blood sugar: white sugar, rock sugar, brown sugar, glucose, maltose, honey, candied fruit, toffee, chocolate, fruit candy, canned fruit, soda, jam, ice cream, sweet pastries, cakes, as well as various sweet drinks, oral liquids, fruit juices, etc. These foods or drinks should be eaten as little as possible. If you want to supplement sugar, you should do so through other means without side effects.


Increased blood lipids, like increased blood sugar, are very detrimental to diabetes. It is an important cause of other diabetic complications. Therefore, diabetics should avoid eating foods that can easily increase blood lipids. Common foods that easily increase blood lipids include lard, beef tallow, mutton fat, butter, cream, fatty meat and foods rich in cholesterol. If you eat too much of these foods that easily increase blood lipids, it will lead to obesity, increased blood lipids, arteriosclerosis, and ketoacidosis. It will also increase the burden on the kidneys and lead to diabetic nephropathy.

We must be more careful when it comes to the dietary taboos for diabetics and not eat foods that are not good for our health in our daily diet. Otherwise, it will cause irritation to our health and have side effects on the treatment of diabetic diseases.
