How to control emotional excitement

How to control emotional excitement

Many people have emotional moments in life, but some people can control their emotions and some cannot. Impulsive emotions sometimes lead to doing some unreasonable things. Sometimes after doing something, they regret doing it, but they just can't control it at the time. In that case, we must learn to control our emotions to avoid doing things that we will regret. How to control your emotions? Let me explain to you several methods below.

Impulsive emotions are actually the most powerless emotions and the most destructive emotions. Many people will do things that they will regret when they are emotionally impulsive. Therefore, some positive and effective measures should be taken to control their impulsive emotions.

(1) First, use your reason to control your emotions and calm yourself down. When encountering strong emotional stimulation, you should force yourself to calm down, quickly analyze the cause and effect of the matter, and then adopt a "delaying tactic" to express your emotions or eliminate impulses, and try your best not to fall into an impulsive, reckless, simple and rash passive situation. For example, when you are being ridiculed or mocked by others, if you suddenly become furious and retort, it is likely to cause an argument between the two parties, and your anger will only grow stronger, which will naturally not help the situation. But if you can remind yourself to calm down and take rational countermeasures at this time, such as using silence as a weapon to protest, or using only a few words to express that you are hurt and accusing the other person of being boring, the other person will feel embarrassed instead.

(2) Use hints and divert attention. Things that make you angry usually touch upon your dignity or vital interests, and it is difficult to calm down all of a sudden. Therefore, when you realize that your emotions are very excited and you cannot control them, you can promptly use hints, divert attention and other methods to relax yourself and encourage yourself to control your impulses. Verbal cues such as "Don't fall prey to impulse," "Deal with this later, it's no big deal," etc., or switching to doing something simpler or going to a quiet and peaceful environment, are all very effective. It often only takes a few seconds or minutes for people's emotions to calm down. But if negative emotions cannot be diverted in time, they will become more intense. For example, the more a worried person thinks about being sad, the more he feels that he has many reasons to be worried; the more an angry person thinks about things that make him angry, the more he feels that his anger is completely justified. According to modern physiological research, when people encounter dissatisfaction, anger, or sadness, they will transmit unpleasant information to the brain, gradually forming a temporary connection in the nervous system, forming a dominant center, and the more they think about it, the more consolidated it becomes, and it becomes increasingly severe. If they immediately shift their focus, think about happy things, transmit pleasant information to the brain, and strive to establish a pleasant excitement center, they will effectively resist and avoid bad emotions.

(3) After calming down, think about whether there is a better solution. When encountering conflicts, contradictions and unpleasant things, we cannot just avoid them, but must learn how to deal with them.

When you are emotionally agitated, take two seconds to think about whether you will regret it in the future if you do those things according to your impulsive emotions? Will there be irreparable losses? If you can control yourself to think about these aspects for 3 seconds, your emotions can be well controlled. If you really can't control it, you should also consider whether you are suffering from a disease. For example, hyperthyroidism can cause patients to experience large mood swings.
