Is a pituitary tumor serious?

Transnasal sphenoidal surgery is a common method, which enters the sphenoid sinus through the nasal cavity to remove the tumor, with less trauma and faster recovery; craniotomy is used for large or complex tumors, and part of the skull needs to be removed to expose the tumor. The risks of surgery include bleeding, infection and abnormal hormone secretion, and it needs to be performed by an experienced neurosurgeon.

4. Radiotherapy is suitable for tumors that cannot be completely removed or recur by surgery. Traditional radiotherapy uses external radiation to irradiate the tumor, but it may damage surrounding tissues; stereotactic radiosurgery such as the gamma knife can accurately locate the tumor and reduce side effects. Radiotherapy has a slow effect and may cause hypopituitarism, requiring long-term follow-up.
