Will rhinoplasty cause nasopharyngeal cancer? How to prevent it

Rhinoplasty is a type of plastic surgery that has been accepted by many people in recent years, but everyone should pay attention to the fact that these plastic surgeries still bring many problems. So, will rhinoplasty lead to nasopharyngeal cancer? How to prevent it?

The main cause of nasopharyngeal carcinoma is genetic factors. According to the research on cell chromosomes and human tissue compatibility antigen HLA, the obvious ethnic clustering of nasopharyngeal carcinoma suggests that nasopharyngeal carcinoma may be a disease related to polygenic genetic factors. Environmental factors are also a cause of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Eating too much salted fish, cured meat and pickled foods containing nitrosamine compounds, high nickel and lead content in drinking water, and high nickel content in rice, changes in these trace elements may also be related to the occurrence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

So rhinoplasty will not cause nasopharyngeal cancer. However, any surgery is risky. Each of the three processes, anesthesia, intraoperative and postoperative, has certain risks. Specifically for rhinoplasty, its main risk is infection. So everyone should also pay attention to the problem of infection. Rhinoplasty alone will not cause nasopharyngeal cancer, but if there is an infection, it is not certain.

Everyone should take precautions, such as:

1. Avoid environments with heavy air pollution as much as possible. Because the nasopharynx is the only way for external air to enter the lungs, harmful and irritating gases first invade the nasopharynx before being inhaled.

2. Avoid Epstein-Barr virus infection. Studies have shown that people who are positive for Epstein-Barr virus infection have a high risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The infection rate is positively correlated with the incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. In areas with a high incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Epstein-Barr virus infection is not only widespread, but also occurs at a very young age. Therefore, Epstein-Barr virus infection should be prevented and treated early.

3. Pay attention to your diet and lifestyle. Eat less or no salted fish, marinated meat and other foods that contain a lot of nitrosamine compounds. Do not eat foods that contain a lot of metal compounds. Eat more fruits, vegetables and other foods that contain a lot of vitamins. Do not smoke or drink alcohol.

Rhinoplasty will not cause nasopharyngeal cancer, but it is best not to do it if possible.
