What is the first stage chemotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma like and how to care for it

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is relatively common. If you have nasopharyngeal carcinoma, you must treat it in time and not delay the disease. So, what is the first stage chemotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma like? How to care?

We cannot ignore the serious harm of nasopharyngeal cancer. If it is not treated actively, the cancer will spread to the brain, which will pose a serious threat to life. If you have nasopharyngeal cancer, you must treat it in time.

Chemotherapy is a common method of treating nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The first stage of chemotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma is to use drugs to kill tumor cells, which is an important method of treating tumors today, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma. However, since most chemotherapy drugs are currently cytotoxic drugs that are "difficult to distinguish between good and bad", they kill many normal cells while attacking tumors, thus causing a series of adverse reactions, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased blood count, damage to liver and kidney function, hair loss, etc.

During treatment, patients also need to pay attention to good care, including the following:

1. Because the lesion is located in the posterior upper part of the nasal cavity, the tumor will block the nostrils and the patient has to breathe through the mouth. Therefore, the moisture in the mouth evaporates quickly, causing the patient's mouth to be dry and chapped; saliva will also decrease after radiotherapy. During nursing, the patient should be given more water, or black plums, American ginseng slices and vitamin C to promote the production of body fluids.

2. Pay attention to prevent colds, pharyngitis, and otitis media. Do not extract teeth, have dentures, or have fillings within 3 years after radiotherapy. If the nose, ears, eyes, or mouth are infected, they should be treated promptly, such as using antibiotics or washing with special solutions.

3. Keep the living environment clean and the indoor air clean and dry. Keep the head and neck away from the sun and cold wind.

4. Pay attention to developing good living habits. Patients must quit smoking and drinking, and avoid eating too cold, too hard, or too hot food. Eat more high-protein, high-vitamin foods.

5. Provide good psychological care to prepare patients for a protracted battle with the disease and reduce fear and tension. Follow the doctor's instructions for follow-up examinations and cooperate with treatment.
