Breast cancer staging

Breast cancer staging

The commonly used breast cancer staging is the international TNM staging. T stands for tumor size, N stands for lymph node status, and M stands for distant metastasis. The details are as follows: 1. Breast lumps <2 cm are T1, 2-5 cm are T2, breast lumps greater than or equal to 5 cm are T3, tumors that invade the skin and chest wall are T4, and special types of inflammatory breast cancer are T4 once diagnosed; 2. Lymph node metastasis is N1, and no lymph node metastasis is N0. According to postoperative pathological analysis, 1-3 lymph node metastasis is N1, 4-9 lymph node metastasis is N2, and more than 9 is N3; 3. Distant metastasis is M1, and no distant metastasis is M0.

Is it necessary to have a breast removal if you have breast cancer?

In my country, breast-conserving surgery accounts for about 30% of all breast cancer surgeries, so it is not necessary to remove the breast if you have breast cancer. However, breast-conserving surgery has certain indications, which are related to the size of the tumor, the distance from the areola, and personal wishes. If the tumor is at the edge of the breast and is relatively small, the patient has a strong desire to preserve the breast, and it is a single tumor, such patients can completely undergo breast-conserving surgery, which can also achieve the same therapeutic effect as mastectomy. If the tumor is relatively large and in the central area of the breast, it is not suitable for breast-conserving surgery, and a modified radical mastectomy and mastectomy are required.

How many years can you live after breast cancer surgery?

With our in-depth understanding of breast cancer in recent years, the survival rate of breast cancer has been significantly improved through surgery and later radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, endocrine therapy, and the improvement of comprehensive treatment level. The ten-year survival rate of stage I breast cancer can reach more than 80%; stage II breast cancer can reach 60%-70%; stage III breast cancer can reach 30%-40%; stage IV breast cancer, generally, the ten-year survival rate is less than 10%. The vast majority of patients can achieve good clinical efficacy through active treatment, so early detection and early treatment are recommended.
