What are the typical symptoms of ovarian tumors

Typical symptoms of ovarian tumors include abdominal discomfort, menstrual abnormalities, loss of appetite, and weight changes. If you experience these symptoms, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible to get a clear diagnosis. Depending on the type and size of the tumor, the symptoms may vary, and early detection and treatment are key.

1 Abdominal symptoms

The most common symptoms of ovarian tumors are abdominal distension, abdominal pain, or abdominal pressure. These symptoms are usually caused by the enlargement of the tumor compressing the surrounding tissues or the accumulation of fluid in the abdomen. When the tumor is small, you may only feel a slight feeling of abdominal distension or heaviness; as the tumor grows, it will cause significant discomfort or even persistent pain. Once these symptoms occur, you should see a doctor as soon as possible for color Doppler ultrasound or CT scan to determine the cause.

2. Abnormal menstruation

The ovaries are important organs that secrete female hormones, so tumors may cause menstrual disorders, manifested as prolonged menstruation, abnormal menstrual flow, or amenorrhea. These symptoms usually indicate impaired ovarian function, especially certain hormone-secreting tumors such as granulosa cell tumors, which may directly affect hormone balance and lead to significant menstrual disorders.

3. Digestive Problems

Nausea, loss of appetite, or early satiety may also be symptoms of ovarian tumors. This is because the enlarged tumor squeezes or disturbs the gastrointestinal function, causing the patient to eat less. The tumor may irritate the gastrointestinal tract and reduce digestion ability. Women with long-term indigestion need to be especially alert to ovarian problems.

4. Weight change or abdominal mass

Patients may experience unexplained weight gain or loss. Rapid weight changes may be associated with weight gain from fluid accumulation in the abdomen or weight loss from cancer. Some patients may feel a hard mass in the lower abdomen that is usually immobile and gradually increases in size. Such signs require prompt medical attention.

5 General discomfort

As the tumor worsens, it may affect the overall condition, and the patient may experience fatigue, shortness of breath, anemia, etc. In particular, advanced ovarian cancer may be accompanied by serious consequences such as pleural effusion and tumor metastasis, resulting in a significant decline in quality of life.

When the above symptoms occur, please go to the hospital as soon as possible for a gynecological examination and imaging evaluation, such as B-ultrasound, CT scan or tumor marker test such as CA125. The cure rate of early ovarian tumors is higher, while late stage usually requires comprehensive treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy and targeted therapy, and the treatment effect will be greatly reduced. It is particularly important to pay close attention to changes in the body and have regular physical examinations.
