What causes pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer is usually caused by a combination of factors, including genetic factors, environmental factors, physiological factors, trauma and other pathological causes. Understanding these factors can help prevent and detect the disease early.

1. Genetic factors: Studies have shown that pancreatic cancer has a certain family genetic tendency. If there are multiple family members with pancreatic cancer, the individual's risk of the disease will increase. Carrying certain gene mutations, such as BRCA2 gene mutations, is also associated with a high incidence of pancreatic cancer. People with a family history of the disease should undergo regular physical examinations and genetic testing.

2. Environmental factors: Long-term smoking is one of the most important environmental risk factors for pancreatic cancer. Smokers have twice the risk of pancreatic cancer as non-smokers. Long-term intake of high-fat and high-sugar foods, less fruit and vegetable intake, and irregular eating habits may also increase the risk of disease. Quitting smoking and adopting healthy eating habits are important measures to prevent pancreatic cancer.

3. Physiological factors: There is a complex relationship between diabetes and pancreatic cancer. Chronic diabetic patients have an increased risk of pancreatic cancer. Conversely, pancreatic cancer may also lead to new-onset diabetes. Maintaining a stable blood sugar level is particularly important for diabetic patients. Long-term chronic pancreatitis may also develop into pancreatic cancer. Cells are more likely to become cancerous under chronic inflammatory conditions.

4. Trauma and pathological factors: Some studies have shown that pancreatic trauma may increase the risk of cancer, and exposure to certain chemicals, pigments and pesticides is also related to the occurrence of pancreatic cancer. It is recommended that relevant occupational groups, especially chemical industry workers, take protective measures.

Based on the above factors, prevention of pancreatic cancer should start from multiple aspects: pay attention to family medical history, healthy lifestyle and control of existing chronic diseases. Regular physical examinations and professional health guidance are effective strategies to reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer, especially genetic screening and monitoring for high-risk groups. Being vigilant and seeking medical treatment in time can increase the early detection rate and thus improve the prognosis.
