What are the causes of teratoma

The causes of teratoma are mainly related to genetic factors, abnormal embryonic development and environmental influences. Its formation usually stems from the failure of embryonic tissue to achieve normal differentiation and migration during development. Generally speaking, teratoma is a tumor derived from germ cells and may contain various types of tissues, such as hair, bones or teeth.

From the perspective of genetic factors, gene mutations and chromosomal abnormalities may increase the chance of uncontrolled reproductive cell proliferation, and some familial genetic diseases are potentially linked to the occurrence of teratomas. Environmental factors may also play a role. For example, if a pregnant mother is exposed to radiation, toxic chemicals, or suffers from a viral infection during pregnancy, these external stimuli may lead to abnormal embryonic development. During the formation of the embryo, if some of its multipotent cells do not develop or differentiate correctly, they may accumulate in the body to form a teratoma. Pathological analysis shows that teratomas are divided into mature and immature types. The former are mostly benign, while the latter have potential malignant risks.

If a teratoma is found, early treatment is key. Common treatments include surgical resection, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Surgery is the preferred option, especially for larger benign teratomas, which can completely remove tumor tissue. If it is a malignant teratoma, chemotherapy containing platinum drugs (such as cisplatin, carboplatin) is required to control tumor growth, and local radiotherapy may be required to reduce the risk of recurrence. You should pay attention to regular physical examinations. If you have abnormal symptoms such as abdominal lumps, pain, or abnormal weight changes, see a doctor in time for examination.
