What causes ovarian tumors

What causes ovarian tumors

Ovarian tumors may be caused by genetic genes, environmental exposure, endocrine disorders, pelvic infection or other diseases. These factors work together to cause abnormal cell proliferation. It is recommended that women undergo regular gynecological examinations, and those with a family history of the disease should strengthen screening.

1. Genetic factors

Ovarian tumors are closely related to genetics, and certain mutated genes such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 can significantly increase the risk. Mutations in these genes can cause problems in the DNA repair process of cells, thereby increasing the chance of tumor formation. If there are cases of ovarian cancer or breast cancer in the family, women should be vigilant and are advised to complete high-risk gene screening regularly, such as BRCA gene testing, to keep abreast of their own risks.

2. Environment and living habits

Environmental pollutants (such as inhaled toxic substances) and excessive intake of high fat and high sugar in the diet may also stimulate changes in hormone levels in the body and aggravate abnormal cell proliferation. At the same time, long-term exposure to endocrine disruptors, such as certain drugs and plasticizers, may also be a trigger. Improving lifestyle habits can effectively reduce risks, such as reducing the intake of processed foods, avoiding contact with plastic products and pesticides, and developing a healthy and balanced diet.

3. Physiological and endocrine factors

Disturbances in hormone levels are important triggers of ovarian tumors, especially abnormal estrogen metabolism, which may stimulate ovarian cell proliferation. Long-term anovulation, irregular menstrual cycles, and late childbearing or no childbearing can also interfere with the self-regulatory function of the ovaries. In this regard, women are advised to pay attention to menstrual and endocrine health, and restore normal hormone levels through medication or other treatments when necessary.

4. Chronic infection and inflammation

Long-term chronic inflammation in the pelvis may damage the ovarian tissue structure and increase the risk of tumors. For example, repeated pelvic infections (PID) or endometriosis may promote tumor formation by inducing local cell degeneration. For infectious causes, antibiotics can be used to treat persistent infections and avoid the harm caused by the progression of chronic lesions.

5. Other pathological factors

Ovarian cysts, functional abnormalities or medical-related diseases may also provide a basis for tumor development. For example, patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are more likely to develop hormonal disorders and induce tumors. Some benign cystic tumors may deteriorate into malignant lesions due to delayed treatment, so high vigilance is required. When related lesions are found, early intervention should be carried out, and surgical resection, hormone regulation or minimally invasive treatment can be selected.

In order to prevent the occurrence of ovarian tumors, women are advised to pay attention to their family genetic background, have regular physical examinations and maintain a healthy lifestyle. If typical symptoms such as lower abdominal mass, abdominal pain, abnormal bleeding, etc. are present, you should seek medical attention immediately and use ultrasound, CT screening or tumor markers (such as CA-125) to confirm the diagnosis and take treatment measures.
