What causes rectal cancer

What causes rectal cancer

Rectal cancer refers to the cancer between the junction of the rectum and sigmoid colon and the dentate line. It is one of the most common malignant tumors in the digestive tract. Its causes are mainly related to non-disease factors, genetic factors, bad habits, dietary factors, disease factors, chronic inflammatory bowel disease, rectal polyps and adenomas. The details are as follows:

1. Non-disease factors

1. Genetic factors: Rectal cancer has obvious familial clustering. Familial adenomatous polyposis and hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer are two common hereditary syndromes. Patients with these diseases have a significantly increased risk of rectal cancer.

2. Bad habits: such as smoking. Tobacco is a clear carcinogenic factor. Smoking is closely related to the occurrence of colorectal adenoma, which may increase the risk of rectal cancer.

3. Dietary factors: such as pickled, fried, and grilled foods. These foods contain more carcinogens, such as nitrosamines. Long-term consumption will increase the risk of rectal cancer.

2. Disease Factors

1. Chronic inflammatory bowel disease: such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. These diseases can lead to repeated destruction and repair of the intestinal mucosa, thereby increasing the risk of cancer.

2. Rectal polyps and adenomas: Most rectal cancers develop from rectal polyps and adenomas. Therefore, patients with rectal polyps and adenomas should undergo timely resection and reexamination.

Note: You should get enough sleep and avoid staying up late. Keep a light diet, eat more vegetables and fruits, and drink more water. Avoid smoking and drinking, and exercise more. If you feel any discomfort, you can seek medical help as soon as possible.
