What are the types of lung cancer?

Lung cancer is divided into four types: squamous cell carcinoma, central lung cancer, adenocarcinoma and alveolar cell carcinoma. Different types of lung cancer have different degrees of malignancy and harmfulness.

1. Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Squamous cell carcinoma, also known as lung squamous cell carcinoma, accounts for about 50% of lung cancer incidence. It originates from the bronchi, grows slowly, has a relatively long course of disease, and is highly sensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

2. Central type of lung cancer

Based on the cell morphology, this type of lung cancer can be divided into oat cell, large cell and small round cell. Among them, oat cell is the most common. This type of lung cancer is also called undifferentiated cancer, which is highly malignant and progresses rapidly. In the early and middle stages, there may be extensive lymphatic or blood metastasis, and the prognosis is poor.

3. Adenocarcinoma

Adenocarcinoma is a common lung cancer in young women. It mainly originates from the bronchial mucosal epithelium and is also called peripheral lung cancer. Early patients often have no obvious symptoms and most people are diagnosed through chest X-rays. This type of lung cancer grows slowly and may metastasize locally in the early stages.

Pulmonary alveolar cell carcinoma (PAC)

Alveolar cell carcinoma is a rare type of lung cancer that usually develops from the epithelial cells of the bronchial mucosa. It is highly aggressive but grows more slowly than other types of lung cancer. In advanced stages, lymph node or blood metastasis may occur. Surgical resection is usually the most effective treatment for this cancer.
