Why does lung cancer always cause fever?

Lung cancer always causes fever, which may be an infectious fever or a symptom caused by an overly large lung tumor or a serious infection.

1. Infectious fever:

The main reason is that lung cancer patients have low immunity, and the infectious fever caused by infection can lead to lung disease blocking the trachea, accompanied by obstructive pneumonia, and a fever caused by a reduction in white blood cells in the body.

2. Lung tumor is too large:

If the lung tumor is too large, the bronchial and lung tissues will close, causing obstructive pneumonia or atelectasis, which can lead to fever. Once the tumor tissue grows too fast, some cells will die due to lack of nutrition, leading to fever. Lung tumors compress the body temperature center, causing central fever. If the patient can remove the tumor in time, the fever symptoms will gradually disappear.

3. Severe concurrent infection:

Especially central pneumonia combined with obstructive pneumonia, on this basis, secondary bacterial infection can lead to chills, fever, cough, yellow sputum, and even sepsis. Lung cancer may also be associated with fungal infection or tuberculosis infection, in which case low fever is accompanied by night sweats. In addition to the causes of the tumor itself, fever in patients with lung cancer may also be caused by combined infections.

For early and mid-stage lung cancer, local surgical resection is clinically recommended. If you are already in advanced lung cancer, you should give priority to palliative care.
