Thyroid cancer can actually be divided into different pathological types, such as papillary carcinoma, follicular carcinoma, medullary carcinoma and anaplastic carcinoma. Thyroid cancer mostly refers to papillary thyroid carcinoma. Papillary carcinoma has a high prevalence, many treatments, good treatment effects and good prognosis. Although anaplastic carcinoma, which is also thyroid cancer, is relatively rare, it has a very poor prognosis, limited treatments and a high mortality rate.

Undifferentiated carcinoma is highly invasive and prone to early extrathyroidal infiltration and metastasis. According to literature reports, the tracheal invasion rate of newly diagnosed undifferentiated carcinoma is 69%, the esophageal invasion rate is 55%, and the carotid artery involvement rate is 39%. Since undifferentiated carcinoma has no iodine-131 uptake function and does not respond to iodine-131 treatment, it can only be treated with surgery, local radiotherapy, and systemic comprehensive treatment.

But currently, even with standardized initial treatment, most patients will have new progression of the disease within a few months, including local recurrence and even distant metastasis. The most common sites are the lungs, followed by bones and brain. Common chemotherapy resistance and radiotherapy tolerance during treatment also make the prognosis of patients with undifferentiated carcinoma more dangerous, but domestic and foreign experts have never stopped exploring comprehensive treatment for undifferentiated carcinoma.
