Advanced liver cancer cells enter the portal vein and form local cancer thrombus, which can lead to persistent hypertension in the portal vein and further cause esophageal-gastric varices. All blood vessels in the portal vein system will increase pressure, which can easily cause symptoms such as vomiting blood and bloody stools.
