In general, the TNM staging criteria for gastric cancer mainly include the depth of primary tumor penetration into the gastric wall, regional lymph node metastasis, and distant metastasis.

1. The depth of infiltration of the gastric wall by the primary tumor: for example, carcinoma in situ does not invade the lamina propria; the tumor invades the lamina propria, muscularis mucosa, submucosa, etc. Primary gastric cancer mostly occurs in the early stages of cancer.

2. Regional lymph node metastasis: generally there are 1-2 regional lymph node metastasis; 3-6 regional lymph node metastasis; 7 or more regional lymph node metastasis. Regional lymph node metastasis mainly occurs in the middle and late stages of cancer.

3. Distant metastasis: There are usually only two results for distant metastasis, namely no distant metastasis and distant metastasis. Generally speaking, no distant metastasis mostly occurs in the early stages of cancer, while distant metastasis mostly occurs in the late stages of cancer.
