What are the treatments for melanoma

Melanoma is a disease that the earlier it is treated, the better. So what are the treatments for melanoma? Melanoma is already affecting the normal lives of patients. Now, let the experts introduce to you the treatments for melanoma.

1. Traditional treatment

This is the most common treatment for melanoma. It includes early surgical resection and mid- to late-stage surgical resection followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Some experts have reported that radiotherapy was performed on melanoma with residual lesions after partial resection, and the results showed that melanoma is resistant to radiation. Some experts have also confirmed that compared with chemotherapy alone, chemotherapy combined with immunotherapy can improve the efficacy, but it is still suggested that radiotherapy can be used as the main treatment for melanoma after surgery.

2. Biological therapy

Such as the application of biological treatment methods such as cytokine infusion, adoptive immunotherapy, tumor vaccines and monoclonal antibody cross-linking. It has been reported that HL-2/LAK combination therapy has a significant therapeutic effect on melanoma, and has achieved good clinical efficacy in alleviating the condition of melanoma, improving survival rate, and regulating autoimmunity, but there is no unified usage to follow. This is also one of the treatment methods for melanoma.

3. Gene therapy

This melanoma treatment method is attracting widespread attention in the medical community due to its unique specificity, strong targeting, and few side effects.

4. Surgical treatment

Biopsy surgery: For patients suspected of having malignant melanoma, surgical treatment of melanoma should include the removal of the lesion together with the surrounding 0.5cm to 1cm of normal skin and subcutaneous fat for pathological examination. If it is confirmed to be malignant melanoma, the need for additional extensive resection will be determined based on the depth of infiltration.

Surgery to remove the primary lesion and regional lymph node dissection, which is generally performed as a preventive lymph node dissection, can better improve the patient's survival rate. This is the surgical treatment method for melanoma.

Palliative resection surgery is a surgical treatment for melanoma in patients with large lesions and distant metastases who are not suitable for radical surgery. In order to relieve ulcer bleeding or pain, as long as the anatomical conditions permit, debulking or palliative resection can be considered.
