Status of tongue cancer in the last month after the late stage

Tongue cancer is a type of malignant tumor disease that occurs in the tongue. Patients will experience tongue pain, tongue erosion, ulcers that are difficult to heal, and lumps. The condition of tongue cancer patients one month before death may vary depending on individual differences and the severity of the disease. Generally speaking, patients may experience severe pain, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, weight loss, confusion, etc., and need to seek medical attention in time and take symptomatic supportive treatment as prescribed by the doctor. The details are as follows:

1. Severe pain: In the late stage of tongue cancer, the tumor invades nerves and tissues, causing severe pain. This pain may be located inside the tongue or mouth, and may be accompanied by radiating pain. For patients who are pain tolerant, analgesic treatment should be carried out in time under the doctor's order, using narcotic analgesics such as ketorolac tromethamine injection, flurbiprofen axetil injection, morphine hydrochloride injection, etc., to relieve pain and improve the patient's quality of life.

2. Difficulty in swallowing: In the late stage of tongue cancer, as the tumor gradually grows and compresses the esophagus, the patient may have difficulty in swallowing and cannot eat solid or liquid food normally. For patients with advanced tongue cancer who suffer from malnutrition due to difficulty in swallowing or loss of appetite, nutritional therapy is required to supplement adequate nutrition to help patients prolong their survival time. They can eat more high-protein foods, such as egg custard, rice soup, etc. If the condition is serious and they cannot eat, they need nutritional infusion.

3. Difficulty breathing: If tongue cancer spreads backward to the trachea or esophageal entrance, it may cause airway compression and cause difficulty breathing, especially at night. For patients with severe hypoxia, oxygen therapy is required. By inhaling oxygen, the oxygen content in the blood can be directly increased, relieving the symptoms of hypoxia.

4. Weight loss: Due to dysphagia or loss of appetite, patients may experience symptoms of malnutrition, such as weight loss, fatigue, and poor skin elasticity. Malignant tumor cells proliferate rapidly, and the body's consumption increases, which can cause patients to lose weight. Patients with advanced tongue cancer can use cisplatin injection, paclitaxel injection and other drugs for chemotherapy under the guidance of a doctor, or can use apatinib mesylate tablets, capecitabine tablets and other drugs for targeted therapy as prescribed by a doctor, which is beneficial to inhibit the growth and spread of cancer cells, thereby delaying the progression of the disease.

5. Confusion of consciousness: Patients with advanced tongue cancer may experience systemic exhaustion symptoms, such as general weight loss, skinny, sallow complexion, poor spirits, etc. As the condition worsens, patients may become confused, drowsy, or even comatose. In this case, timely medical attention is required for a comprehensive examination and evaluation to determine the specific cause of the confusion, and the doctor will develop a targeted treatment plan. If the confusion is caused by increased intracranial pressure, dehydration drugs may be needed to reduce the intracranial pressure; if it is caused by electrolyte disorders, the corresponding electrolytes may need to be supplemented; if it is caused by infection, antibiotics may need to be used. At the same time, patients need to be given adequate nutritional support, including intravenous nutrition, enteral nutrition, etc.

The treatment effect and prognosis of tongue cancer are related to many factors, including tumor stage, pathological type, patient's physical condition and treatment plan. Patients should actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment plan and pay attention to maintaining a good mentality and living habits to improve the treatment effect and quality of life.
