How to judge whether the scalp is dry or oily

Nowadays, when people go to buy skin care products, the salesperson will first ask what skin type they need, because each skin type requires different types of skin care products. There are several types of skin conditions, such as dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, etc. These skin types are very common in daily life. The condition of the skin will also be reflected on the scalp. How to judge whether the scalp is dry or oily?

1. How to distinguish between dry and oily scalp

Just as our skin can be divided into dry, neutral, oily, and sensitive types, our scalp also has different types.

The way to determine the nature of your scalp is to part your hair and press a piece of oil-absorbing tissue on your scalp for one minute 24 hours after washing your hair. Observe after removing the oil-absorbing paper:

1. If there are oily stains on the part of the tissue paper that touches your scalp, and the oily stains do not disappear after a few minutes, then it means that you have an oily scalp.

2. The oil stains on the tissue paper will fade away after being left for a few minutes. This means that the “oil stains” are moisture and you have a normal scalp.

3. No oil stains, large pieces of dandruff, and dry scalp.

4. If the color of your scalp is not skin-white but slightly reddish, it means you have a sensitive scalp.

2. Common knowledge of scalp care

1. The water temperature is slightly higher than body temperature during washing

Many people believe that high temperatures can maximize the effectiveness of shampoo products and make hair cleaner. In fact, this is not the case. Too high temperature or long washing time will cause the pores of the scalp to expand larger and larger, which can easily lead to scalp inflammation. It is best to use water at around 40°C, which is slightly higher than body temperature.

2. Apply hair care products 2 cm away from the scalp

Although the nutrients in hair care products are good for your hair, they should not be applied all over your head. Since the hair follicles on the scalp are opened when shampooing, if hair care products are applied to the hair roots, the chemicals in them can easily penetrate and clog the hair follicles, causing hair loss.

3. Keep the hair dryer about 15cm away from your hair.

When using a hair dryer, pay attention to the distance between the hair dryer and the hair. Too close may cause damage to the scalp. And the direction of blowing should also be along the direction of hair growth. At this time, the hair cuticles are in a closed state. If you blow backwards, the hair scales will open up and the hair will become more frizzy.

4. Avoid exposure to sunlight

You should also pay attention to sun protection for your hair. In fact, the damage caused by ultraviolet rays to the hair is more than twice as serious as that to the face. Ultraviolet rays can cause hair cuticles to become thinner and flake off, while strong sunlight can cause hair to lose moisture, becoming dry and rough. Long-term exposure to ultraviolet rays can cause hair to split and break.

5. Avoid rubbing your hair repeatedly with a dry towel after shampooing.

After the hair roots are soaked in hot water and massaged, blood circulation speeds up and the pores open. Rubbing hard can easily cause the hair to separate from the follicles or be pulled apart. Use a large dry towel to absorb as much moisture as possible from your hair, then let it dry naturally.

6. Sleeping with wet hair makes it dry

After shampooing, the hair cuticles open up. At this time, the hair is very fragile and cannot withstand friction. If you sleep with your hair half wet, it will cause the cuticle to become thinner and make your hair dry.
