Thyroid cancer is a common endocrine tumor in clinical practice. Many factors need to be considered before unilateral resection of thyroid cancer, such as the location of the lesion, pathological type, surgical method, and whether there is distant metastasis. 1. Location of lesion: Thyroid cancer is more common in women, and the thyroid gland is located in the superficial tissue in the front of the neck. Unilateral resection of thyroid cancer needs to consider the location of the lesion. If the lesion is close to the thyroid capsule or trachea, unilateral resection should be performed. If the lesion occurs on the dorsal or lateral side of the thyroid gland, bilateral resection should be performed. 2. Pathological type: Common pathological types include papillary carcinoma, follicular carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma, etc. If it is papillary carcinoma or follicular carcinoma, unilateral resection is required, and if it is undifferentiated carcinoma, bilateral resection is required; 3. Surgical method: The surgical methods are divided into total thyroidectomy, subtotal thyroidectomy, near-total thyroidectomy, etc. Currently, the most commonly used one is total thyroidectomy, because total thyroidectomy can better clear the lymph nodes and reduce the recurrence rate. If it is a subtotal or near-total resection, some of the patient's thyroid function can be retained, but it may cause lymph node dissection, and the patient needs to take levothyroxine sodium tablets for life. Since undifferentiated carcinoma is more sensitive to radioactivity, radionuclide therapy, or endocrine and chemotherapy will be the first choice in surgery. For the treatment of thyroid cancer, the earlier the prognosis, the better. Therefore, when thyroid cancer occurs, you should seek medical attention in time and choose the appropriate treatment method under the guidance of a doctor; 4. Whether there is distant metastasis: Whether there is distant metastasis is an important factor affecting the prognosis of thyroid cancer patients. If there is distant metastasis, unilateral resection of thyroid cancer is not recommended, and comprehensive treatment is required, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, etc. Early diagnosis and early treatment are recommended for thyroid cancer patients because the cure rate is high. If the disease is not diagnosed in time and develops to the late stage with serious complications, the treatment effect will be poor. In addition, patients also need regular checkups after surgery, and pay attention to adjusting their diet and exercising appropriately to prevent recurrence or metastasis. |
