How long is the survival period of thyroid cancer

The survival period of thyroid cancer is mainly related to the stage of the disease, the treatment method and the patient's physical fitness, and cannot be generalized. Thyroid cancer is a common malignant tumor, which can be divided into papillary carcinoma, follicular carcinoma, medullary carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma according to pathological type.

1. Papillary carcinoma: If it is discovered in the early stages and surgically removed in time, it can usually achieve clinical cure and generally will not affect the patient's life span. However, if the disease develops to the middle or late stages, it may affect the patient's survival time, and the 5-year survival rate is about 80%;

2. Follicular carcinoma: It is a low-grade malignant thyroid cancer. If it can be found, diagnosed and treated early, most patients can be cured after radical surgery without affecting their life expectancy. However, some patients will relapse or metastasize, resulting in a poor prognosis, with a 5-year survival rate of about 60%;

3. Medullary carcinoma: Due to its relatively low malignancy, the 5-year survival rate is relatively high, at around 90%. However, if distant metastasis occurs, it will lead to a poor prognosis;

4. Undifferentiated cancer: It is highly malignant and grows rapidly. It can invade surrounding tissues and organs and can metastasize to various parts of the body, such as the lungs and bones, through lymphatics and blood circulation. Therefore, its 5-year survival rate is extremely low, below 10%.
