The range of tsh control after single thyroidectomy

Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor that originates from the thyroid follicular epithelium or parafollicular cells. Single thyroidectomy means that the thyroid gland is completely removed, but some thyroid tissue is retained. TSH is thyroid-stimulating hormone, an important hormone that controls the growth of thyroid cancer. The range of TSH control after single thyroidectomy should be determined based on factors such as the type of thyroid cancer, whether the surrounding tissue of the thyroid gland is damaged during surgery, and whether the cancer recurs.

1. Types of thyroid cancer: There are many types of thyroid cancer, mainly including papillary thyroid cancer, follicular thyroid cancer, medullary thyroid cancer and anaplastic cancer. Generally speaking, the TSH level corresponding to papillary thyroid cancer should be controlled at 0.5-2.5mIU/L, the TSH level corresponding to follicular thyroid cancer should be controlled at 0.4-4.0mIU/L, and the TSH level corresponding to medullary thyroid cancer should be controlled at 0.3-4.0mIU/L;

2. Whether the thyroid gland surrounding tissues are damaged during the operation: If a simple total thyroidectomy is performed, the thyroid gland surrounding tissues will generally not be damaged, so the range of TSH control is no different from other types. However, if a subtotal thyroidectomy or total thyroidectomy plus lymph node dissection is performed, the thyroid gland surrounding tissues may be damaged, and the range of TSH control will be reduced accordingly;

3. Whether the cancer has recurred: If the patient has a recurrence of cancer after thyroid cancer surgery, the TSH control range will also be adjusted according to the recurrence.

For thyroid cancer patients, due to individual differences, the disease progresses differently. Even for the same type of disease, patients' TSH levels can vary. Therefore, after thyroid cancer surgery, thyroid hormone levels should be checked regularly to understand the development of the disease and the patient's physical condition.
