What are the symptoms of cervical cancer?

To distinguish cervicitis, there are usually no symptoms in the early stages and there is no obvious difference from chronic cervicitis. Sometimes the cervix is ​​even smooth, especially in elderly women.

When tumors grow in the uterus, such as uterine fibroids, endometrial cancer, uterine sarcoma, and choriocarcinoma, menstrual abnormalities may occur, including menorrhagia, irregular periods, prolonged menstruation, spotting, etc. Some ovarian tumors, such as granulosa cell tumors and theca cell tumors, can secrete estrogen, interfere with the menstrual cycle, and cause menstrual abnormalities.

Patients often complain of increased vaginal discharge, which is white or bloody, thin like water or rice soup, and has a fishy smell. In the late stage, due to the rupture of cancerous tissue, tissue necrosis, secondary infection, etc., there is a large amount of purulent or rice soup-like foul-smelling leucorrhea.

Young patients with cervical cancer often present with contact bleeding, which occurs during sexual intercourse, gynecological examinations, and after bowel movements. The amount of bleeding can be more or less, generally depending on the size of the lesion and the extent of invasion of the interstitial blood vessels.

Torsion, rupture or infection of ovarian tumors, prolapse of submucosal uterine myomas from the cervix or degeneration of myomas can all cause severe lower abdominal pain.

Depending on the extent of the lesion, secondary symptoms may occur. When the lesion affects the pelvic connective tissue, pelvic wall, compresses the ureter or rectum, or sciatic nerve, frequent urination, urgency, anal swelling, constipation, tenesmus, lower limb swelling and pain often occur. In severe cases, it may lead to ureteral obstruction, hydronephrosis, and eventually uremia. At the end of the disease, the patient may experience weight loss, anemia, fever, and systemic failure.

Recurrence of cervical cancer after radiotherapy usually occurs within 2 years. According to statistics from the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, 84% of cases relapse within 2 years. However, 4% still relapse within 5 to 10 years after treatment. Recurrence of cervical cancer after surgery usually occurs within 1 year. According to statistics from 1,417 surgeries in Shanghai, 61 cases of cancer recurrence resulted in death, of which 45 died within 5 years. According to foreign reports, the recurrence rate of advanced cervical cancer after 5 years is 7:8 to 11:1. After cervical cancer relapses, if not treated, the patient will die within more than half a year to 1 year, and only a few can survive for more than 2 years.

Distant recurrence and metastasis. For example, lung metastasis may cause cough, chest pain or back pain; blood in sputum or hemoptysis; bone metastasis often causes fixed focal pain; liver metastasis often causes discomfort or pain in the liver area; and clavicular lymph node enlargement.

The diagnosis of recurrent cervical cancer must be combined with clinical pelvic examination and various auxiliary examinations to detect and diagnose it in an early stage.

From this perspective, we should pay more attention to the recurrence of cervical cancer.
