What should be done about intracranial hypertension caused by gastric cancer?

The reason why gastric cancer patients experience intracranial hypertension is mainly due to the metastasis of gastric cancer cells. If gastric cancer patients experience intracranial hypertension, some dehydration and diuretic drugs can be used to reduce intracranial pressure. Chemotherapy can also be used for treatment. At the same time, it is also necessary to reduce brain edema and cerebrospinal fluid volume to prevent the occurrence of infection symptoms.

Gastric cancer is a very difficult disease to treat, and in the later stages it will most likely metastasize and may also cause intracranial hypertension. However, many gastric cancer patients are not very clear about what to do after developing intracranial hypertension, and therefore become very panic-stricken. Let me introduce to you what to do about intracranial hypertension caused by gastric cancer.
1. Treatment based on the cause
In case of intracranial hypertension, treatment must first be carried out according to the specific condition. However, because intracranial hypertension is mainly caused by brain diseases and is very serious, if the amount of bleeding is greater than 30ml, surgical treatment is recommended for the patient; if it is less than 30ml, conservative treatment can be used, and drugs that can reduce intracranial pressure can be given intravenously. Long-acting drugs include glycerol fructose and short-acting drugs include mannitol. If intracranial hypertension is caused by a tumor, necessary surgery or radiotherapy and chemotherapy should be taken.
2. Surgical treatment
When these cases of increased intracranial pressure occur, first of all, if surgical treatment is possible, it must be performed in a timely manner, such as surgical removal of tumors, surgical drainage of hematomas, etc. The second is to use drugs to reduce intracranial pressure. The most commonly used drugs in clinical practice are 20% mannitol, glycerol fructose, furosemide and albumin. These drugs can play a role in reducing intracranial pressure.
3. Reduce brain edema and cerebrospinal fluid volume
In case of intracranial hypertension, the first thing to do is to reduce brain edema as soon as possible. Hyperosmotic dehydration drugs such as mannitol or glycerol fructose and diuretic furosemide can be used. Closed or continuous controlled ventricular cerebrospinal fluid drainage or shunt can be performed. Maintain cerebral perfusion pressure at around 70 mmHg, which is equal to mean arterial pressure minus intracranial pressure. To maintain normal cerebral perfusion pressure, it is necessary to reduce intracranial pressure, reduce carbon dioxide partial pressure, and increase oxygen partial pressure.
