What are the causes of pituitary tumors

What are the causes of pituitary tumors

Pituitary tumor is a tumor disease with a very high incidence rate. Although the medical level is advanced now, pituitary tumor still poses great harm to patients. We should pay attention to it. Only by understanding the causes of pituitary tumor can we better prevent and treat it. Let’s talk about the causes of pituitary tumor.

1. Thyrotropin-stimulating adenoma

Due to hypothyroidism, the whole body metabolism is slow, which causes the metabolism of estrogen and androgen in the body to decrease with the lack of thyroid hormone. This is also one of the very common causes of pituitary tumors.

2. Theory of pituitary cell defects

(1) The cause of pituitary tumors comes from a mutated cell, followed by monoclonal expansion or cell replication caused by its own mutation.

(2) The intervention of external precipitating factors or the lack of inhibitory factors.

3. Hypothalamic regulatory dysfunction

(1) Hypothalamic polypeptide hormones stimulate the proliferation of pituitary cells. For example, after the GHRH gene is transplanted, it can induce the proliferation of GH-promoting cells in rats, and then develop into the actual cause of pituitary tumors.

(2) The lack of inhibitory factors can also promote tumor occurrence. For example, ACTH adenoma can occur in patients with primary adrenal cortex insufficiency, which is one of the causes.

4. Prolactin-secreting pituitary tumor

Female symptoms include amenorrhea, lactation, and infertility, while male symptoms include impotence and sexual dysfunction. This is related to the fact that hyperprolactinemia inhibits the release of gonadotropin, reduces pituitary responsiveness, and reduces testosterone production. In this case, simply supplementing with testosterone preparations will not be effective, which is also an important factor.

After a comprehensive understanding of the above knowledge, everyone knows the causes of pituitary tumors. When pituitary tumor-related symptoms appear, pay attention to them, such as doing a CT scan, and then a more detailed MRI examination, it can be clear. Generally speaking, if the endocrine system has obvious changes and treatment is ineffective, or if headaches, visual impairment, or any of the endocrine system problems occur, the possibility of pituitary tumors should be considered. If they occur at the same time, you should go to a relevant specialist hospital for examination, diagnosis and treatment in time.
