Principles of medication for osteosarcoma

Principles of medication for osteosarcoma

Bone tumors are tumors that occur in bones or their accessory tissues (blood vessels, nerves, bone marrow, etc.). They are common diseases. Like other tissues in the body, the exact cause is unknown. Bone tumors can be benign or malignant. Benign bone tumors are easy to cure and have a good prognosis, while malignant bone tumors develop rapidly, have a poor prognosis, and a high mortality rate. So what are the treatment and medication principles for osteosarcoma?

Principles of medication for osteosarcoma

(I) Treatment principles:

1. The treatment of osteosarcoma emphasizes early comprehensive treatment, mainly surgery and chemotherapy. If the diagnosis is clear and there is no lung metastasis, high amputation or joint amputation should be performed, followed by chemotherapy.

2. Patients with a single lung metastasis can undergo amputation and lung metastasis resection at the same time.

3. Radiotherapy is not sensitive to osteosarcoma and is only used as an adjuvant treatment before or after surgery, or when the tumor cannot be removed or has metastasized to the lungs.

(II) Principles of medication:

1. Osteosarcoma is mainly treated with comprehensive treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc.

2. Since the 1970s, high-dose chemotherapy has become popular and is used before and after surgery, which has greatly improved the cure rate of osteosarcoma and the five-year survival rate can exceed 50%.

3. Chemotherapy is often used in the following situations:

(1) As an adjuvant therapy for surgery;

(2) Radical surgery is not possible in some areas;

(3) As a palliative treatment in the late stage;

(4) The patient refuses surgery. Commonly used chemotherapy drugs advocate the combined use of two or more drugs, and pay attention to ensuring a large urine volume and alkalinizing the urine to reduce the toxic reaction of the kidneys.

The above are the principles of treatment and medication for osteosarcoma. Bone tumors are the same as other tumors. Their causes are very complex. Generally speaking, internal factors exist first, and external factors occur through internal factors. Therefore, everyone should have a physical examination on time every year to detect and cure early.
