What is the reason for low retinol binding protein

When the retinol binding protein level is low, you should be alert. There are many reasons for low retinol binding protein. For example, when the patient has liver disease, the level of RBP in the serum will be significantly reduced. It may also be related to kidney disease. If the patient has hyperthyroidism, the retinol binding protein will also be low. Once patients show such examination results, they should promptly check the cause of the disease and then carry out corresponding treatment and conditioning. After all, the several diseases that cause this phenomenon are quite harmful to patients. Therefore, in addition to regular treatment, good health care measures are also necessary.

1. Relationship with liver disease:

The serum RBP levels in cirrhosis and acute and chronic hepatitis are significantly reduced, and the decrease in serum RBP content in the early stage of acute viral hepatitis is more obvious than in the late stage. The serum RBP level can accurately and sensitively reflect changes in liver function and is negatively correlated with GPT, GOT, AKP, etc.

2. Relationship with kidney disease:

Chronic pyelonephritis, chronic glomerulonephritis, kidney stones, diabetic nephrosclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus nephropathy, nephrosclerosis and unexplained kidney disease, significantly increased serum RBP levels, acute tubular necrosis, chronic renal failure, blood, urine RBP, creatinine levels are significantly higher than normal people, albumin content in the blood is reduced, increased in urine, changes in hematuria RBP are consistent with traditional indicators of renal function.

3. Relationship with other diseases:

The serum RBP levels of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism are lower than those of normal people in the former and higher than those in the latter. The changes in plasma RBP in patients with nutritional diseases who are receiving nutritional therapy are earlier than those in albumin and transferrin, and are more correlated with nitrogen balance than albumin and transferrin, indicating that serum RBP levels are a sensitive and specific indicator of the efficacy of nutritional diseases. Except for chronic diarrhea, the serum RBP levels of patients with digestive system diseases are significantly lower than those of normal people. Serum RBP is closely related to vitamin A content. When serum RBP is lower than half of the normal level, the patient will show a decrease in dark adaptation ability, suggesting that serum RBP content can more sensitively reflect vitamin A deficiency.
