There are four types of pituitary tumors, and their pathogenesis is a multi-step process. Pituitary tumors are a group of tumors that arise from residual cells of the craniopharyngeal epithelium in the anterior and posterior pituitary gland, accounting for about 10% of intracranial tumors. Let's take a look at the main types of pituitary tumors.

1. Growth hormone-secreting pituitary tumor

The main manifestations of this type of pituitary tumor are gigantism (occurring in adolescent patients with unclosed epiphyses), facial changes, enlarged hands and feet (increased shoe size), excessive sweating, bone and joint lesions, carpal tunnel syndrome, swelling of the soft tissues and joints of the hands and feet, increased blood pressure, increased blood sugar, coronary heart disease, and tumors of the thyroid and colon, etc.

Clinically, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)-secreting pituitary tumors mainly present with symptoms of hypermetabolism such as heat intolerance, sweating, weight loss, palpitations, and atrial fibrillation.

4. Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secreting pituitary tumor

Symptoms such as central obesity, moon face, acne, hirsutism, and purple striae (purple-red skin lines on the body) are common manifestations of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)-secreting pituitary tumors. Pay more attention to prevention.
