Key points for postoperative care of ovarian teratoma

Teratoma is a tumor that grows in the female genitals. This disease troubles many women, and most of them are young women. The common treatment is surgery. It should be noted that the preoperative and postoperative care of the patient is very important. If the patient's care is done well, it can help the patient recover quickly. Let's take a look at the key points of teratoma care.

1. How to care for ovarian teratoma after surgery:

Eating: 6 hours after surgery, the patient can be allowed to eat a small amount of liquid food, such as rice soup, noodle soup, etc. Do not give the patient sweetened milk, soy milk powder and other sugary drinks to prevent abdominal distension.

Vaginal bleeding: In order to make the ovaries, fallopian tubes and the back of the uterus clear or provide enough space for surgery, a uterine support device is usually placed in the vagina (not used by unmarried women) to adjust the position of the uterus. Therefore, there will be a small amount of vaginal bleeding after surgery. This is normal. If vaginal bleeding lasts for more than two weeks, you should consult a doctor.

Massage: Since most patients do not feel pain after surgery, do not neglect massaging the patient's waist and legs, and turn the patient over once every half an hour to promote blood circulation.

Sex life: Generally, patients who have undergone laparoscopic surgery can resume normal sexual life after two weeks. For general infertility patients, those who have undergone fallopian tube examinations and plastic surgery, sometimes they can have sexual intercourse after one month to coordinate with the time of ovulation. However, sexual intercourse should not be too intense.

Activities: The catheter can be removed after the fluid infusion is completed on the same day, and the patient is encouraged to get out of bed and move around.

Daily life: Patients who undergo laparoscopic fallopian tube surgery and laparoscopic ovarian surgery can resume their normal routines two weeks after the surgery. Those who undergo total hysterectomy should avoid riding bicycles and sitting for long periods of time in the first two weeks of the surgery to prevent pelvic congestion. They should also pay special attention to avoid lifting objects weighing more than 5 kilograms.

Nutrition: Usually, after laparoscopic surgery, patients can resume eating. First, they should drink some warm water. They should fast on the day after surgery. After the gas is discharged on the second day, they can start to eat liquid food and eat a moderate amount of easily digestible food. During the recovery period, they should also eat more high-protein, vitamin-rich and high-fiber foods.

Bathing: Keep the wound clean and dry. You can take a shower only after the wound has completely healed for about 10 days. After returning home, the patient must pay attention to whether the wound is red, swollen, hot, or painful every day to prevent infection and inflammation.

2. What should not be eaten by patients with ovarian teratoma:

1. Avoid smoking and drinking.

2. Avoid greasy, fried, moldy, and pickled foods.

3. Avoid warm and blood-moving foods such as mutton, dog meat, leeks, and pepper.

4. Avoid irritating foods such as onions, garlic, peppers, and cinnamon.

Warm reminder: Patients with teratoma should eat light, easily digestible food the day before surgery to prevent postoperative intestinal flatulence. Pay attention to clean the navel with warm water. It is best to use a cotton swab dipped in soapy water or vegetable oil to remove dirt in the navel. Take oral sedatives as prescribed by the doctor if necessary.
